Rory McIlroy aims to use his upcoming tech-driven TGL venture alongside Tiger Woods to draw in more young enthusiasts to the sport, scheduled to commence in January 2024. The reality is that golf organization leaders and the Tour acknowledge the sport’s declining popularity among younger generations.

Consequently, they recognize the significance of innovation and the evolution of golf. The primary objective is to captivate the interest of younger fans, encouraging their passion for golf and potentially sparking their involvement in playing the sport.

Rory McIlroy stands among the golfers who grasp the importance of engaging young individuals in the world of golf. “Younger people hopefully. That’s the future of our game is trying to get the younger generations involved and trying to have them somehow relate to our game in some way.”- Rory said at the pressconference in Dubai.

Rory and Woods recognized the allure of innovation and creation, yet they hold onto the hope that golf retains its essence in certain aspects. While acknowledging the significance of innovation, they both share the belief that preserving specific elements is crucial for golf to maintain its charm and tradition.

“So yeah, just a different demographic, trying to put golf on a slightly different platform, and you know, if we can increase the interest in the game for a younger demographic, hopefully golf doesn’t look like what we are doing in TGL 50 years from now because it is a game to be played outdoors and on golf courses and in the fresh air.”- he continued.

The crucial thing in all this is to generate interest. Then when you succeed in that, there are huge chances to attract the attention of many to golf as it has always been. “But I think there’s a place for it to maybe get people excited about watching a different version of the game that they can relate to, and I guess if that gets their foot in the door in some way, that’s a really good thing.”– he concluded.
