Perhaps no one believed it anymore after the 4-5 0-40 of the decisive third set. But Jannik Sinner outdid himself once again, canceling three match points and managing to beat Novak Djokovic 7-5, rebalancing the Davis Cup match between Italy and Serbia, which Italy then won thanks to doubles (Sinner and Djokovic on the court again).
A victory that will be remembered for a long time in the history of tennis, as well as that of the ATP Finals albeit during the group stage. Sinner, who won the decisive point together with Lorenzo Sonego in doubles, achieved an impressive record thanks to this success.

In fact, the world number 4 is the only one, together with Nicola Pietrangeli, to have beaten a world number 1 during a Davis Cup match.
In 1960 the former player managed to beat Australian Neale Fraser. Now, Sinner’s feat against Nole, who hadn’t lost since 2011 in this competition, in a semi-final against Juan Martin del Potro, is added to the very short list.
On the other hand, 11 defeats have been accumulated over the years by Italian tennis players against the world no.1s. This is the second victory in just under two weeks for the athlete trained by coach Simone Vagnozzi and Darren Cahill against the Serbian.
In recent months Jannik has grown a lot in awareness and performances, managing to beat all the best tennis players in the ATP ranking, winning the most important titles so far in his young career and obtaining his best ranking, at no.4 in the ATP ranking .
