Carlos Alcaraz announced big updates on the terrible injury he suffered in Rio

Carlos Alcaraz was forced to withdraw from the ATP tournament in Rio de Janeiro due to a bad ankle injury, which occurred after two games played in the first round against the Brazilian Thiago Monteiro.

Carlitos tried to play for a couple of games, but his ankle then swelled: the decision to withdraw was also made to avoid further complications.

The injury reminded me of the one Alexander Zverev suffered at the Roland Garros 2022 semifinal against Rafael Nadal. The Spaniard immediately asked for a medical time-out, but as soon as he took off his shoe it was immediately clear that his ankle had already swollen.

He is increasingly missing the ATP Masters 1000 in Indian Wells and he is now waiting for the medical tests that the tennis player will carry out in the next few hours.

“I will have the ankle test and we will see if it is something serious or not”

“I tried to get back into the match to see if I could play or not. Then I spoke to the physiotherapist and we decided to try and see if the situation improved, things didn’t go that way, the pain continued and I was forced to withdraw, especially as a precaution.

I thought it would be difficult to continue the match. The physiotherapist told me that we should continue a few games and see what my sensations are. I felt the pain. I couldn’t move well and that’s why I chose to retire. Well, it was bad, it was bad because I felt bad.

This was the first impression I had. I felt pain once I fell. I don’t know yet, that’s the truth. Tomorrow I will have the ankle test and we will see if it is something serious or not. I mean, the physical therapists told me they think it’s not too serious,” he told at the press conference.

The Spaniard then talked about the immediate future, as he will have to defend the 1000 points in Indian Wells. Among other things, Alcaraz should be involved – before Indian Wells – in an exhibition in Las Vegas against Rafael Nadal, a highly publicized event which now clearly risks being cancelled.

“Right now it hurts when I walk, I’ll go slowly and try to rest today, then tomorrow I’ll do the tests. The physiotherapists told me it’s not serious, I felt a lot of pain at the time of the fall but it’s a change of direction , these are things that can happen, I’m certainly not the first to happen to them,” he added.
