Farmers Insurance Open goes to Max Homa

The Farmers Insurance Open goes to Max Homa who in California, after a comeback in the final round, celebrated his sixth career title (in 156 appearances) on the PGA Tour. In San Diego the American, with a last round in 66 (-6 ) on a total of 275 (68 70 71 66, -13) hits, he passed competition from Keegan Bradley, 2/o with 277 (-11) ahead of Collin Morikawa, 3/o with 278 (-10).

At Torrey Pines GC (South Course, par 72) Jon Rahm failed to do the job. For the Spaniard, 7th with 280 (-8), the possibility of celebrating his third consecutive success on the circuit vanished despite a comeback that had seen him climb from 116th position (at the end of the opening round) to 2nd a (at the end of the “moving day”).

The feat in San Diego belongs entirely to Homa who, having recovered from 4th position, recovered five shots and took the entire stake. Now in second place in the FedEx Cup, his success earned him $1,566,000 for a total prize pool of $8,700,000.

Max Homa won the 2023 Farmers Insurance Open. In his native California, the 32-year-old golfer achieved his sixth career victory on the PGA Tour as well as the second of what is already a season to remember. Homa had the great merit of managing a difficult and chaotic last round perfectly, responding present in the decisive moments.

The final score of the winner reads -13: Homa started at -7 in fourth position, before slipping four birdies in the first nine holes, then reacting to a bogey with two birdies in the last three which sanctioned his victory.

He was decisive for his great precision from the tee, especially on the par 3 which earned him three shots recovered. Second place for Keegan Bradley in a great comeback. As for Homa, the score for the day reads 66 and 6 shots recovered until the final -11.

After a rough start to the tournament, no one has recovered more shots than him over the last two days. Victory escapes him by two strokes but he has very little to complain about. Third place for Collin Morikawa with a score of -10, achieved thanks to the 69 scored in the fourth round.

Trio of players in fourth position: Sahith Theegala, Sungjae Im and Sam Ryder who, after leading the rankings in the first three days, collapsed today going 3 strokes over par. A similar fate also for Jon Rahm who finishes seventh and has to postpone his return to number 1 in the world rankings.
