The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews is one of the oldest golf clubs in the world, the oldest being the Honorable Company of Edinburgh Golfers of Muirfield.

It is established in St Andrews, in the county of Fife in Scotland, considered in the world as the “home of golf”. Previously, the club was also one of the regulatory authorities for the sport, but since 2004 this role has passed to a newly formed group of companies collectively known as ‘The R&A’

The club was founded in 1754 as the Society of St Andrews Golfers, a local club playing at the St Andrews Links, and quickly rose to fame. The R&A is the regulatory authority for golf worldwide with the exception of the United States and Mexico where this responsibility rests with the United States Golf Association (USGA).

The R&A organizes eleven tournaments and international meetings, including: The British Open Golf, one of the four major championships in men’s golf
The Amateur Championship, which was one of four major tournaments before professional golf came into its own. Currently, it is still one of the most prestigious amateur tournaments in the world.
