Bayern Munich still £20m short of Tottenham’s Harry Kane valuation after London talks

Bayern Munich are deadlocked in talks with Tottenham over their pursuit of Harry Kane with negotiations expected to continue this week after representatives from both clubs met in London on Monday.

Kane is Bayern’s No.1 target for this summer and though the Bundesliga giants are prepared to shatter their transfer record to sign the England captain, there remains a significant gap of at least £20 million in their attempts to agree a fee.

As reported by Telegraph Sport, a senior delegation from Bayern consisting of chief executive Jan-Christian Dreesden and Marco Neppe, the club’s technical director, flew into London on Monday and had lunch with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy to try and break the impasse.

Bayern have always expected discussions with Levy to be drawn out and it is understood that there is still some way to go until the clubs are anywhere near reaching a compromise.

It is still being regarded by Bayern as hugely positive that Levy agreed to discuss Kane’s future in the meeting, and the expectation remains that the forward will leave in this window with under 12 months left on his contract. Kane was 30 on Friday and can leave for nothing next year.

Bayern’s current transfer record is the €80 million (£68 million)  paid for centre-back Lucas Hernandez four years ago, and it would require a fee of over €100 million to persuade Levy to sanction Kane’s sale.

Their pursuit of Kane has been boosted by the sale of former Liverpool forward Sadio Mane to Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr, with his departure freeing up more funds after agreeing a £24 million sale.

It has also been reported in Germany that Tottenham will demand a buyback clause if any deal for Kane can be thrashed out.

Negotiations are expected to continue in the next few days and Bayern are confident that Kane is prepared to move to Germany for the next stage of his career.

Thomas Tuchel, the Bayern manager, is driving the move for Kane and wants him in place before the start of the Bundesliga season, which begins on August 18.

Bayern face Liverpool in a friendly on Wednesday night in Singapore, where Tuchel is expected to be asked about the club’s interest in Kane.
