Behind-the-scenes footage shows Newcastle man Dan Burn do famous dance as rival fans ‘cringe’

Newcastle star Dan Burn can be spotted pulling out his now-famous dance during media duties – and it has split opinion.

The Geordie defender went viral last season when he scored in a 2-0 win over Leicester in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals.

It was Burn’s first goal for Newcastle, the club he supported as a lad growing up in Blyth, and Sky Sports cameras managed to find their way into the dressing room afterwards.

That was the moment that Eddie Howe called Burn up after his goal and the 6ft 6in star got up and pulled out a bizarre yet now iconic dance move.

And ahead of the new season, it appears that the 31-year-old was at it again as he cracked it out yet again in front of a green screen.

So, be prepared to see it on your screens in the not-so-distance future – especially if the ex-Brighton star is on the scoresheet.

While Newcastle fans adore the centre-back, not everyone has been left convinced over his dance moves.

One fan replied: “Cringe every time I see him do it.”

Another wrote: “Newcastle become the cringiest club in the league, fans were bad enough now the players at it.”

And this fan said: “Club gets worse and worse.”

While Newcastle might have divided some sections of fans, they themselves could not be closer together currently.

After years of misery under the Mike Ashley regime, Geordie supporters are in dreamland under Howe.

That has been reciprocated by the players, including Burn, who is delighted to be a part of things after taking the risk to leave a Brighton side on the rise for his boyhood club.

Burn told talkSPORT: “It’s just a bit surreal. When I came I said that in my heart I was desperate to come.

“Brighton were flying high in the league and there was a strong chance that if I went to Newcastle I might never play Premier League football again.

“So to be sitting here 18 months later, finishing fourth and getting Champions League football next season and playing regularly at the moment, I probably couldn’t ask for any more.”

Burn joined the Magpies in January 2022 and played every game in the Premier League last season as they finished fourth in the table.

And they are back in the Champions League ahead of next season for the first time in 20 years.

There are high hopes that they can even go on to win a piece of silverware, something the Magpies fell at the last hurdle at last season.

After reaching the Carabao Cup final, Manchester United beat them to continue the club’s long wait for a major trophy.

While they won the Championship in 2017, the last major piece of silverware to be lifted was the FA Cup in 1955 – 68 years ago.
