Sydney Thunder have registered the lowest total score in T20 history… and Ben Stokes can’t believe it.
The Australian ‘Big Bash’ team – who have England cricketer Alex Hales in their side – were chasing a total of 140 set by their opponents Adelaide Strikers at the Sydney Showground Stadium on Friday.
But Hales’ side were destroyed in just 35 balls, getting bowled out for 15, with Henry Thornton taking five wickets for just three runs.
The Thunder’s total is the lowest ever scored in a T20 match, beating Turkey’s 21 all out against the Czech Republic back in 2019.
And even England captain Stokes was clearly floored by Sydney’s capitulation.
Watching from Karachi ahead of his country’s final test of the series against Pakistan on Saturday, Stokes took to Twitter to react to the record score.
“8-10 off 5,” he wrote, alongside a series of mind blown emojis.
After the match, Man of the Match, Adelaide’s Henry Thornton was also in shock about just how low Sydney’s score was.
“Even in the backyard, they are my best figures!” he said. “I don’t think we can believe it.
“They nicked everything and we caught everything. It was amazing. It was a great all-round performance and it’s a great feeling.”
