On Thursday, Andreescu suffered a horrifying injury at the Miami Open and she needed to be assisted into a wheelchair before exiting the court in tears.
The next day, Andreescu announced that she tore two ligaments in her left ankle. Andreescu didn’t provide a clear timetable for her return but she did say that she was hoping to “return soon.” “Results show that I’ve torn 2 ligaments in my left ankle.
Its tough to say exactly how long it will take, but let’s just say it could’ve been much worse!! I’m going to take it day by day, and I am optimistic that with the right work, rehab, and preparation, I’ll be back on court soon.
Rehab process has already started and will continue to give updates. Love you all,” Andreescu announced on Friday.
Ekaterina Alexandrova was devastated for Andreescu
After losing the first set, Andreescu started the second set with an early 2-0 lead over Alexandrova.
While attempting to run the ball down in the third game of the second set, Andreescu crushed onto the field and immediately started screaming in pain. The moment Andreescu went down with an injury, it was clear that the match was over.
After Alexandrova progressed into the quarterfinal via an Andreescu retirement, she underlined that it definitely wasn’t the way she wanted to beat the Canadian. “I’m just really sorry that it happened to [Andreescu].
Seeing her on the court in so much pain, it’s just painful to watch. You cannot help, you can do nothing, which is terrible. I think she’s going to be fine soon, and I’m wishing for her speedy recovery. The first set was super tough and great, and it probably could be a pretty good match for both of us, but unfortunately [Andreescu’s injury] happened,” Alexandrova said of Andreescu’s injury.
