So far this summer, the Chicago Bulls have stayed involved, especially in free agency. Not only did they bring back Nikola Vucevic and Coby White on new contracts, but they also signed Jevon Carter and Torrey Craig to three-year deals, giving them some much-needed depth.
Most recently, the Bulls waived big man Marko Simonovic, who hadn’t earned a real role on the team during his two-year stint in Chicago. In the grand scheme of things, it’s a minor move, but it clears a roster spot and could be a sign of things to come for the Bulls, according to KC Johnson of NBC Sports Chicago.
Johnson wrote an article titled “Bulls waiving Marko Simonović with more offseason work to do” and spoke about how quiet Chicago has been. However, they could just be waiting for dominos to fall in the form of James Harden and Damian Lillard trades.
“After making relatively quick splashes in free agency to re-sign White and verbally agree to terms with Carter and Craig, the Bulls have been quiet since July 3.
Until the Damian Lillard and James Harden situations are resolved, which could take weeks or months or, less likely, with both players returning to their respective teams for training camp, many teams will slow-pedal their remaining business. The logical thinking would be that players available for minimum contracts now will still be available later in the offseason, and any potential Lillard or Harden trade could present currently unforeseen opportunities—either directly or in a multi-team situation,” Johnson wrote.
There’s still a lot of offseason left, so make sure to keep an eye on the Bulls.
