Camila and the other stars started the grass swing
Camila Giorgi is back on the court for the grass season, after her retirement against Jessica Pegula at the Roland Garros.
The Italian defeated Madison Brengle at her debut at the WTA 250 in Nottingham with a score of 7-6 ( 5) , 6-2. The match had been suspended due to rain. Giorgi, ahead 5-1, did not experience a peaceful recovery and lost four consecutive games by making many free mistakes with his backhand.
The Italian fortunately found her tennis at the crucial moment and brought home a very tough tie-break. In the second half of the game, Giorgi dominated far and wide and broke her rival three times in a row. Venus Williams‘ third game of the season ended in loss.
The American fought with all her might in the first two sets but collapsed in the third and allowed Celine Naef to lead the exchanges. Nick Kyrgios still seems to have not resolved the knee problems that forced him to undergo surgery at the beginning of 2022.
The Australian played his first official match of the season in Stuttgart and made up for a defeat against Yibing Wu. Kyrgios complained several times to his corner about the condition of his knee and did not take advantage of the two break points offered to him by the Chinese in the first and eleventh game.
When he served to grab the tie-break, the Australian played a clumsy short ball and handed the set to Wu, who was good at closing the point at the net. Wu snatched the serve to zero from Kyrgios at 4-3 in the second set and managed the last game without worries.
