Canelo Alvarez will defend his WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO super-middleweight world titles against Jermall Charlo, likely on September 16.
Boxing’s biggest star has reportedly signed a three-fight deal with Al Haymon’s PBC worth over $100million that will see him box under the guidance of the influential American advisor for the next 18 months.
Since securing his free agency in late 2020, Canelo has negotiated his bouts on a one-or-two-fight basis.
The majority of his deals since then have been with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom.
He’s had seven fights since – six with Hearn, one with Haymon.
Now though, according to ESPN, Canelo has committed to Haymon’s PBC for his next three bouts.
The first of these will come against Charlo, likely on September 16.
The next two will be in May 2024 and September 2024, opponents not yet confirmed.
There are several candidates within the PBC stable to potentially challenge Canelo next year.
The standout super-middleweight is unbeaten former world champion David Benavidez (27-0, 23 KOs).
Highly rated contender David Morrell (9-0, 8 KOs) will also no doubt push for a shot in the not-too-distant future.
And unified welterweight world champion Errol Spence has also previously talked up a potential move up to fight Canelo.
If he can emerge victorious as undisputed king in his fight with Terence Crawford in July, Spence vs Canelo would no doubt be a mega showdown in 2024.
