‘Carlos Alcaraz wasn’t playing his best tennis but…’, says Top 10

Carlos Alcaraz has left everyone speechless this year. The young Spaniard had already shown flashes of crystalline talent in 2021, when he beat Stefanos Tsitsipas at the US Open, but no one could have imagined such a thunderous explosion.

2022 represented a sort of consecration for the Iberian, who won the US Open becoming the youngest number 1 in the history of men’s tennis. The 19-year-old from Murcia enriched his season by also winning two Masters 1000 (Miami and Madrid) and as many ATP 500 (Rio and Barcelona).

His performance dropped slightly after his triumph in New York, also due to some physical problems. A torn abs sustained in Paris-Bercy prevented him from playing the ATP Finals in Turin and the Davis Cup finals in Malaga. Juan Carlos Ferrero’s protégé will be engaged in the Abu Dhabi exhibition from 16 to 18 December.

Speaking to Eurosport, Daniil Medvedev explained that he wanted to draw inspiration from ‘Carlitos’

Medvedev praises Alcaraz

After a rather disappointing 2022 season, Daniil Medvedev intends to take his revenge next season.

During an exclusive interview with Eurosport, the Russian explained that he wanted to draw inspiration from Carlos Alcaraz in Australia. “When you are confident after winning games, you are more of a favorite for a Grand Slam.

Still, before the US Open, Alcaraz wasn’t playing his best tennis but with the talent and game he has, he was able to do it. That’s what I think of myself. I know I can play good tennis, I know I can beat anybody on a good day, and I know I’m capable of winning Grand Slams because I did that against Novak when he was aiming for the Calendar Grand Slam at the US Open 2021.

I know I have it in me, I just have to find a way to do it more often than in 2022”. Matteo Berrettini has praised Carlos Alcaraz for taking his chances in the 2022 season to rise to the top of the men’s game. “It feels unbelievable if you think about it, what he [Carlos Alcaraz] achieved in such a short time.

I remember playing him in Australia at the beginning of the year and I played him Rio as well, and I felt he is a great player but what he did is still impressive for his age. The physicality he already has and everything, also mentally it’s not easy to deal with everything that he dealt with, so it’s impressive,” Berrettini said.
