Championship winner odds: Leicester, Leeds and Southampton fancied to battle it out to go back up

The Championship is set to be incredibly entertaining for the 2023/24 season with a very open campaign.

Leicester City have been shortened to just 9/2 to win this season with a strong looking Championship, with Leeds United and Southampton just behind in the betting according to talkSPORT BET.

Leeds are used to this kind of fight though and fought for a long time to get back into the Premier League just three years ago.

The Whites won the league in the 2019/20 season and on their return finished ninth in the Premier League just behind Arsenal.

But since then it’s gone downhill and they narrowly escaped relegation last season.

But the bookies aren’t ruling out them going straight back up but the key thing for all of Leeds, Leicester City and Southampton, is who they keep hold of amid their relegation.

The summer transfer window will also be of great use to those teams coming up from League One: Sheffield Wednesday, Ipswich and Plymouth Argyle.

Championship outright winner odds

  • Leicester – 9/2
  • Leeds United – 6/1
  • Southampton – 7/1
  • Middlesbrough – 8/1
  • Ipswich – 12/1
  • Norwich – 12/1
  • West Brom – 14/1
  • Watford – 16/1
  • Sunderland – 20/1
  • Stoke – 20/1
  • Swansea – 25/1
  • Millwall – 25/1
  • Coventry – 25/1
  • Blackburn – 25/1
  • Sheffield Wednesday – 25/1
  • Hull City – 33/1
  • Huddersfield – 40/1
  • QPR – 40/1
  • Preston – 40/1
  • Cardiff – 40/1
  • Birmingham – 40/1
  • Plymouth – 50/1
  • Bristol City – 50/1
  • Rotherham – 66/1

Plymouth won the title by three points and yet are as high as 50/1 to win the Championship while Ipswich are as short as 12/1.

This further speaks volumes of the potential of players’ abilities stepping up or down into this league and just encapsulates how open this season is at this early stage.

Middlesbrough were arguably unlucky not to secure promotion with a succinct turnaround made by Michael Carrick.

But they flailed occasionally especially in the run-in ahead of the play-offs and that form carried over into the semi-finals losing to Coventry.

Championship Promotion odds

  • Leeds United – 15/8
  • Leicester – 15/8
  • Southampton – 3/1
  • Middlesbrough – 3/1
  • Ipswich – 4/1

Ipswich Town impressed last year with a strong finish to gain automatic promotion into the Championship.

The side only lost four games all season and were also the top scorers with 101 goals from 46 fixtures.

Gaining promotion back into the Championship after being relegated in the 2018/19 season has been the ultimate goal but it has taken some time to get things right, which clearly happened this season.

If their strike force can handle the step up to this league they should make a good challenge for promotion but it’s still very early with the summer transfer window being a big indicator in how teams can shape this season.
