Chelsea hope appointing Mauricio Pochettino as manager would help convince Mason Mount to stay, talkSPORT understands.
The Blues recently resumed contract talks with Arsenal and Liverpool transfer target Mount.
Discussions with Pochettino about being Graham Potter’s long-term successor are at an advanced stage.
Mount is out of contract at Stamford Bridge in 2024 and talks over a new deal had stalled earlier this year.
With Chelsea reluctant to let the 24-year-old enter the final year of his deal, a summer exit looked increasingly likely.
Arsenal and Liverpool are both thought to be interested in the England midfielder if he chooses to leave.
Academy graduate Mount was Chelsea’s official Player of the Season for the last two years after breaking into the first team in 2019.
However, the midfielder has struggled this season, scoring just three goals in 24 Premier League games and losing his place in the starting XI.
It has been suggested the Blues will cash in on homegrown talent this summer to balance the books after spending £600million since the arrival of co-owner Todd Boehly in May 2022.
But the American is determined to keep Mount, who has been at the club for 18 years.
It is understood Boehly has held face-to-face talks with Mount and hopes the possible appointment of Pochettino will persuade the player to agree new terms.
