Coach Rick Macci says the only difference between Serena Williams and Venus Williams is that they don’t have the same first name. Macci, 68, had a chance to see in live Serena and Venus even before the world knew about the two extremely talented sisters.
One day, Richard Williams contacted Macci and told him he had two extremely talented daughters. Macci agreed to start working with the Williams sisters and he coached them for a couple of years during their childhood. The rest is history as today Serena and Venus are widely recognized as all-time greats.

Serena & Venus Williams have always had a very close relationship
Serena, 42, and 43-year-old Venus have always had a very close and strong relationship.
After the 2022 US Open, Serena’s career came to an end. On the other side, Venus is still active and competing on the pro level. In August, Venus earned her first top-20 win since 2019 when she defeated Veronika Kudermetova in Cincinnati.
After the win, Venus revealed Serena’s message. “She texted me after. She had a lot of encouraging words to say. She just is encouraging me to, you know, just to rise to be my best, because she believes in me and she knows what I have inside of me.
It’s nice to have obviously her, because she knows and she knows what position I’m in and what it’s like to be in this position. She knows what it’s like to have something to give, but, like, you just need that opportunity. So, it’s nice that she believes in me,” Venus said.
