Many are frustrated with current events on the golf scene. Although most had hoped that the PIF-PGA Tour deal would be reached on December 31, the deadline has been extended, further deepening the uncertainty. Most ask the question: How long will everything last? Only this deal can resolve the conflict between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf. The fact is that there are quality golfers on both Tours who will not have the opportunity to play with the best. This kind of deal would help all parties.
Collin Morikawa is one golfer who doesn’t like uncertainty and is frustrated that things have turned out this way. Morikawa hopes that an agreement will finally be reached in the coming period. At the moment he is focused on his game. There is nothing left for him but to hope and be an optimist.
“I read up on everything that’s going on, but at this point, all you can do is just play your best golf and show up and see what happens,” -Morikawa said, as quoted by golfmonthly.com
“I hope everything comes together and we’re able to all play together at some point in some time in some way, but there’s so much back and forth, the e-mails we get is, it’s all fluff. Like, there’s no point in reading these e-mails anymore that we get. Players are saying one thing and then they say something else some other time.”
Collin Morikawa talked about how it’s important for everyone to agree and get back to playing golf together. He said it’s okay that players make their own choices; he’s never had a problem with that.
Morikawa is not the only one who has this attitude. Recently, Rory McIlroy surprised everyone when he started saying positive things about LIV Golf, and repented of his earlier statements. It is clear that PGA Tour golfers are slowly changing their attitude, which may well worry the leaders of this Tour. Perhaps the attitude of the head of the PGA Tour towards golfers has influenced all this.
Morikawa misses playing with all the other players at the same time, like they do in major tournaments. It feels normal, just like when he first started as a pro golfer.
Morikawa wanted to make clear that this doesn’t mean the PGA Tour or the fields are any less special. He thinks there are amazing players in different parts of the world, and he believes we’re missing out on seeing their talent in action.
Golf fans want to watch the best on one Tour, which seems impossible at the moment. The latest departure in the series, that of Jon Rahm, caused concern among many. The Spaniard was a key man of the PGA Tour and one of the best golfers in the world. It is also a fact that he is still one of the best golfers in the world, but this time he will play at LIV Golf.
Fans of this sport believe that Rahm’s departure will cause a domino effect, and that many will decide on the same move. LIV Golf offers huge money, but also the behavior of PGA Tour leaders, as we have already said, causes frustration among golfers. LIV Golf really knows how to use this, so we should not be surprised if many more decide to join LIV Golf.
Norman and other key people of LIV Golf are ready to make a revolution and lure a few more great golfers. The departure of one leads to the departure of the other. That’s what golf fans fear.
Collin Morikawa and his goals
Morikawa wants to enter the new season much better, and with greater ambitions than before. Statistics aren’t what he’s interested in right now. The most important thing for him is to achieve victories and raise trophies. Looking at his qualities, no one doubts that Morikawa can really do great things.
“I don’t care [about the stats]. If I was No. 1 in putting, it doesn’t mean anything if I’m not winning. If that’s all I cared about and that’s what I wanted to accomplish for the year, then yeah, but my goals aren’t set like that. For me, it’s wins and consistency,” Morikawa said.
Golf, like any sport, carries something interesting with it. Sometimes if you excel in two tournaments you can say you had a great year. Morikawa is aware of this fact, and wants to give his best in the upcoming challenges.
“I mean, at the end of the year, you could miss 20 cuts and have one win or win a major and you’re like, man, yeah, my year might have been pretty shitty for 99 per cent of it, but that one per cent makes up for it.”
The most important thing for him is to be consistent and achieve good results from tournament to tournament. This is exactly what makes a golfer classy and a great player.
“When you’re able to accomplish the wins — you know, wins can come in many fashions, right? You could win playing well, you can win playing poorly, you can win having lucky breaks, but when those things come together, there’s no better feeling.”
Uncertainty about golf will cause frustration for many, given that it is difficult to predict what the future holds, and whether the PIF-PGA Tour deal will actually be finalized. Golf fans hope that a solution will be found as soon as possible, and that the obstacles will disappear. We hope that this year we will have the opportunity to watch the best ones at the tournaments.
Morikawa is one of those who is optimistic about the future of golf. He, just like everyone, has to be patient and hope for the best.
