In the third set, Medvedev recovered from a break down and also saved two match points en route to completing a 3-6 7-5 7-6 (7) comeback win over Zverev.
“I’m like ok, I’m not going to play til you guys shut up. I just discussed the mark. There’s nothing to complain about. After the 2022 Australian Open final I was like ‘You can do whatever but I won’t play til you stop.’ As long as there’s sound I won’t play,” Medvedev said, via The Tennis Letter.
Medvedev on beating Zverev: “He served for it twice so he probably should’ve done better. But that’s also clay courts. You can come back any moment. The serve doesn’t count as much. As soon as someone gets a bit tight, the match can turn in 1 second.
That’s what I managed to do” pic.twitter.com/2p1rIcK5XU — The Tennis Letter (@TheTennisLetter) April 13, 2023
Medvedev beat Zverev in ‘a crazy match’ Zverev had multiple opportunities to close out the match in the third set but just failed to do so.
The first break of the third set was seen in the ninth game, when Zverev broke Medvedev for a 5-4 lead. Serving for the match in the 10th game, Zverev failed to close out the match as Medvedev managed to get the break back and ultimately for a tie-break.
In the third-set tie-break, Medvedev saved two match points before converting his own first match point. “That was a crazy match. He served two times for the match, he probably should have done better, but that is also clay courts.
I tried to watch a lot of tennis before playing this tournament, and one thing that I saw is you can come back at any moment. The serve doesn’t count as much, so as soon as someone gets a little bit tight, the match can turn around in one second. That’s what I managed to do,” Medvedev said after the match.
