De Bruyne rocket keeps treble dreams on track and gives Guardiola’s men huge advantage in Champions League semi-final

Manchester City seized the initiative after battling to a 1-1 draw with Real Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final.

A tense showdown with little to split between the two teams was ultimately decided by two stunners from Vinicius Jr and Kevin De Bruyne.

Vinicius struck first with a rocket after 36 minutes against the run of play to put Madrid in the driving seat.

But Pep Guardiola’s side weathered the early storm after the break and De Bruyne’s equally impressive strike restored parity.

City held on for the draw and now know that any win in the second leg next Wednesday at the Etihad will be enough to put them through to the final.
