‘Easiest money I’ve ever made’ – Conor McGregor lets rip at Henry Cejudo following split decision defeat to Aljamain Sterling at UFC 288

Conor McGregor was quick to poke fun at Henry Cejudo following his comeback defeat against bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling.

‘Triple C’, who retired three years ago, returned to the Octagon in the UFC 288 main event but fell short in his bid to become a two-time 135lb champion.

Cejudo gave a good account of himself but ultimately fell to a split decision defeat before suggesting that he may retire again during his post-fight interview with Joe Rogan.

McGregor, who was active on social media throughout UFC 288, took aim at Cejudo before the main event got started, he tweeted: “16 wins 2 losses. At flyweight. Guy is a novice in MMA.”

After two of the three cagside judges scored the fight for Sterling, ‘Notorious’ returned to brag after seemingly betting on the bantamweight king to retain his strap.

McGregor added: “Easiest money I’ve ever made. Not a scratch on Aljo!

“Congrats Funkmaster! Good little fighter is Henry but give it a rest with these agendas all the time. The guy is sub 20 fights in his career. His little feints an all ahaha omg please teach me mastermind lol.

“Done the splits like a stripper and got dumped on his ass he did hahaha oh lord it’s tasty.”

McGregor revealed to a fan that he scored the fight four rounds to one in Sterling’s favour before uploading a video poking fun at ‘coach fantastic’ Cejudo and his fighting style.

He said: “Congrats, ‘Funk Master’. Great fight. I knew you were going to win that fight, my man. Easiest money I’ve ever made. I already went shopping in advance and everything is Gucci.”

The former dual-weight UFC champion then proceeded to mimic Cejudo’s stance and poke fun at the man he has clashed with several times over the years.

McGregor’s issue with ‘The King of Cringe’ stems from his repeated attempts to coach him by commenting on the various training videos the UFC superstar shares with his fans.

‘Mystic Mac’ took offence to a wrestler offering him striking tips, despite the fact other UFC fighters such as Jon Jones, Jiri Prochazka, and Weili Zhang train with Cejudo.

Ahead of UFC 288, the Olympic gold medallist took back his offer to train McGregor and pointed to him overstepping while trash-talking Khabib Nurmagomedov as the reason.

The Irishman didn’t immediately respond to Cejudo’s comments but is certainly letting him have it in the aftermath of a tough loss that may have ended his fighting career.

McGregor will soon begin preparing for his own comeback as he’s booked to fight Michael Chandler later this year after a lengthy spell on the sidelines due to an injury he suffered at UFC 264 in July 2021.
