Tottenham defender Emerson Royal’s dad has claimed that his son would be better suited at Real Madrid.
The 24-year-old has struggled to make an impact at Spurs this season and has recently been sidelined with a knee injury.
Pedro Porro signed in January to effectively replace him at right-wing back, and has made 11 appearances since his arrival.
Emerson could therefore be on his way out of the club in the summer and his dad, who also acts as his agent, has eyed bigger and better prospects.
As quoted on the Charla Podcast, Emerson Zulu said: “There is a great possibility that Emerson will leave Tottenham.
“We believe it’s time for him to take a bigger leap and to go to a team that fights for titles. I think he fits a giant like Real Madrid.”
However, the defender has since responded to the comments, saying: “Although he is entitled to his own opinion, I have never spoken to him about it and I have always made it clear that I am happy at Tottenham.
“As a professional athlete, I am proud to represent the team that believed in me and gave me the opportunity to showcase my skills.”
Emerson’s last appearance for the club came in the 3-3 draw against Southampton, which ultimately proved to be Antonio Conte’s last match as manager.
As a result of his injury, the Brazilian international missed Spurs’ dismal 6-1 thrashing by Newcastle.
They went 5-0 down inside just 21 minutes at St. James’ Park before eventually falling to their biggest defeat of the season.
Questions have been raised over the future of interim boss Cristian Stellini, with Spurs’ hopes of a top four finish now looking slim.
They are continuing their search for a new manager, with Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique both being linked.
