Emma Raducanu says experiencing the Olympics is one of her goals but also suggested that her Olympic debut may not come next year. Raducanu, 20, could potentially make her Olympic debut at next year’s Paris Olympics. Considering the fact that Raducanu is one of the biggest names in British women’s tennis and the lone active British female Grand Slam champion, there is no doubt that the nation would like to see her represent Great Britain at the upcoming Olympics.
Raducanu, who had three surgeries in May, for now is focused on returning to being fully healthy and being able to play again. “Obviously, the Olympics is such a big thing in sport. I think I could play another four if I really wanted to, so this one isn’t the immediate rush or pressure, it’s just about getting back on court.
I love the Slams but I do want to have the Olympic experience. I’ll just see how it goes, if I even qualify and how it goes from there,” Raducanu told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme.
Raducanu will return with new goals
After winning the 2021 US Open, Raducanu started to struggle with various injuries and physical setbacks.
That led to Raducanu experiencing bad losses and early exits. After losing her Stuttgart opener in April, Raducanu realized there was no point in continuing to play while injured. Raducanu hasn’t won any titles since the 2021 US Open and she is now ranked at No 280 in the world, but she is positive about her comeback and looking forward to hopefully doing big things.
“I will be coming back with probably a lower ranking, but I’m actually looking forward to starting again, kind of resetting. I still have new goals, new things I want to achieve. But I’ve still got like 15 years left in my career, so there’s no rush,” Raducanu said. In early December, Raducanu is scheduled to play an exhibition in Macau, China.
