Elsie: You’re listening to the A Beautiful Mess Podcast, your cozy comfort listen. This week we’re dissecting a favorite comfort watch movie for decor and home inspiration. This is an ongoing series for us, and this week’s selection is Twilight. We’re covering the original 2008 movie as well as the rest of the saga. So Emma, describe the movie Twilight for those who haven’t watched it. 

Emma: All right, so if you don’t know what Twilight is, I don’t even know. Where, to begin with, you, but it’s about vampires and a human falls in love with a vampire. And they’re in high school. Well, she is, he’s obviously really old cuz he’s a vampire, so there’s that. And then there are also werewolves and there’s a love triangle with the werewolf and it’s set in the northwest, so it’s Portland. Gosh, I don’t even know. I’m just like, it’s about vampires. Everybody is focused here. 

Elsie: It’s in Oregon, in Forks, Oregon, which is a real city. We’ll talk about that later. It is a slam dunk, home run banger. 

Emma: You’ve read the books, right? Or no? 

Elsie: I have read some of the books. 

Emma: Okay. Did you read the first one? 

Elsie: I read the first one and I read the new weird one with the other perspective. Keeley told me all about that. So Keeley has taught me 95% of what I knew about Twilight came from her. I heard that if you wanna be a fan, you can be called a TWI Hard, or you can be called a fan Pire. Fan Pire? Those are cute, right? Okay, so Carson made me read the book, it’s called Midnight Sun. So the Midnight Sun is the same as Twilight but from the Vampire Edwards’s perspective instead of from Bella’s perspective. And she said it was allegedly much sexier, maybe more than the original, but not like the other books we read at all. I don’t think any of these books are like the other books we read at all. But it was fun, I think it’s a journey. I wanted to read them just because I think that Stephanie Meyer is fascinating and I love just learning about her career. She has one of those really interesting, romantic author stories. She thought of the idea of Twilight from a Dream. And that is a very romantic freaking story. So, anyway where do we start with this episode, Emma? How do we get into it? 

Emma: I guess let’s talk about the coloring of the movie generally. 

Elsie: Oh my gosh. So I only watched these movies I think a year or two ago. It was definitely during my biking phase. So that was not very long ago. But the original first time that I saw Twilight, I remember specifically I was on an airplane. And you know how sometimes when you’re flying on an airplane, you like to watch someone else’s movie? When you’re bored. When you’re not watching a movie, just looking over at someone else’s movie. And sometimes I watch almost the whole movie that way. So this was one of those times. and I was watching the original Twilight and I just could not believe the coloring, like the filter of how the first movie looks are so green. It’s like the whole thing takes place with a green cast, the whole movie. Just Google a picture of the baseball scene if you wanna see an example of how green it is. It’s stunning looking. Very, very different from any movie I’ve ever seen. And like you could say it’s cheesy and dated, but I think that it’s come around to where it’s so bad, it’s good now. I would stand by it as kind of a pro of the movie, not a con. 

Emma: Yeah, and I don’t think I saw this first one in theaters, but I probably saw it within the first year or two that it was out. And I remember not loving the movie. I have read all the books and loved the books. Very fun. 

Elsie: Were you a little snob? Were you a little high school snob? What made you not love the movie? 

Emma: No, I was definitely in my early twenties. I had to have been like 23 or 24, maybe even 22, I don’t know. So no, I wasn’t in high school or college. No, I just remember thinking that the green filtering was just kind of weird. And also the first movie feels a little low-budget in a way that I wasn’t expecting because it was such a popular book. And I think I was such a fan that I was expecting the Avengers, like that kind of budget and obviously they didn’t have that kind of budget. 

Elsie: Keeley told me that the budget for the Twilight movies tried to take the Harry Potter fans for the next chapter, but the budget was nowhere close. So I think that makes sense, I think that comes through as like it’s a similar type of fandom. But yeah, I thought the first movie was kind of slow. Even the action scenes are kind of slow, but I mean, obviously beautiful in a guilty slash not guilty pleasure kind of way. 

Emma: Yeah, what I would say about how I feel about it now, rewatching it recently and seeing the green filtering and just like the clothes and the way they’ve done the makeup and all the things. I feel like I understand more now what they were going for, and I love it. This is Weird and a time capsule and I think it’s awesome. And they also did a few interesting choices for me. Like whenever the vampires are walking, not necessarily the Collin crew, but the other three vampires who show up later and they’re sort of the bad guys. There’s a part where they’re like walking out of the forest to the baseball game and you can tell that they’re kind of gliding, they still have the actors move their legs. But they’re on some kind of, Glider or something where they’re actually just sort of floating. So it’s just this weird surreal look where you’re, you can see that they’re moving their legs, but you know that they’re not walking like there’s something weird. And I just think that was like a weird, interesting choice that I liked and it kind of set the vampires apart. There are other things they did to set the vampires apart from human characters, but I don’t know, little details like that, I was like this is really interesting. I feel like they made a lot of choices in the movie that was fun and they’re weird, but it feels really campy and fun and a very cult classic, I would say. 

Elsie: Yeah, very strong choices. I thought it aged very well in that way. Let’s talk about their MySpace hair. The actors, especially the vampire actors, have extreme hairstyles that are just like a time capsule of the early two thousands. I know this movie came out in 2008, but the hairstyles to me seem older than that, and the clothes may be too. It is how people wore their hair when we were in high school and college. Just hairstylist hair slash MySpace hair. And it also evolves through the series, some of the actors get different hairstyles and a lot of them are wearing wigs.

And I will say a lot of the wigs are bad, so there are definitely not all the wigs that look like they’re seamless. But yeah, there’s something very MySpace about the whole thing. 

Emma: I think it feels very emo. Also, the soundtrack, just very teenage angst or young adult angst or whatever the hairstyles, some of the clothes, some of the acting, the soundtrack all feels like it really fits that kind of aesthetic of I’m Emo. 

Elsie: Yes. Yes. Oh, I have to tell you my biggest name drop ever, I have two actually. So the first one, so I’m so cool. I have two friends who had songs in the Twilight movies, not the same movie but in the first movie, our friend’s band, it’s not a band anymore, at the time was called Mute Math and they performed their song from the first Twilight movie, it’s a pretty good placement. It’s like they’re walking into the high school as a couple for the first time. Did you see it? When you watched it? Did you notice? When I was first dating Jeremy, he performed the song with them on the Jay Leno show when Jay Leno was still having his show. And so it was like a very exciting moment in my twenties to see my boyfriend, he was just playing the keyboard or whatever, but it was so cool. And it was because they were in this movie, that they got to do that late-night show. And then our other friend sleeping at last, Ryan did the song for the wedding scene and it’s actually in there twice. It’s in the wedding scene, and then they play it again during the first sex scene on the honeymoon. It’s a really good placement. If I had to say in my memoir at the end of my life, like, when were you the proudest of a friend? It would probably be when I watched that movie, it was so epic, it was so special. So anyway, yeah, there’s my name drop. You can all be jealous. Okay, so anyway, we talked about the MySpace hair, and we talked about the filter. I was just gonna say if we’re making a themed party for the first movie, I would decorate it as The Prom, it’s like a casino-themed prom and then I would serve mushroom ravioli because that’s like a part of the first date. Yeah. I think that would be pretty legit. 

Emma: Yeah, I think so too. I also love all the food at the diner and just the diner generally, it’s just a cute atmosphere and it makes me think of, I think it was called jeans in Buffalo, Missouri back when we were growing up and our grandma would take us there when we were there with her on the weekends sometimes. And it’s now a different restaurant I don’t know what it is now, but I would always get grilled cheese and french fries. I was a kid. And it just was very like a diner and it was great. 

Elsie: Yes, so backing up, let’s talk through all of our favorite sets and rooms and houses in the movie. I think the diner is a great place to start because I just love movies set in a small town is a thing that I absolutely adore. I think it’s just charming and it’s wonderful and the diner, it’s a staple of any small town. If you don’t have a diner where you can order, like a Gilmore Girls type of diner then you don’t have it is the most important small-town business to have, I think.

Emma: It’s important. Yes, you need that. Where are you going to take your grandkids to get grilled cheese?

Elsie: I tend to love a diner in any movie and in real life, I’m always talking about it. And they get harder and harder to find in certain parts of the country. They’re not easy to find. It’s very special. The second place that I wanna talk about is the Swan house. So it’s Bella Swan’s father’s home and I thought that this was the perfect small-town farmhouse. It looks like an average house. It reminds me of many of my friends’ houses that I visited as a child, like when you’re going to a birthday party or having a sleepover, things like that. It’s like the perfect little house. And he tries to make her a bedroom that’s like perfect for a teenager, but he gets the age wrong. 

Emma: Oh, I thought he had kind of left things in her room that was like from times she had visited in the past and they were like child things. It was kind of like she hasn’t really been here in a little while, or, oh, she hasn’t seen her dad that much over the years. 

Elsie: That’s what I think it’s communicating, when he’s like, you like purple, right? And she’s like, yeah. It’s like that for all family members if you don’t see a child for six months, you might see a completely different child with completely new different interests. 

Emma: I know at some point I’m gonna come in hot with a princess dress and Goldie’s gonna be like, I’m over that. And I’ll be like, oh my gosh, what do I do now? 

Elsie: Never. She’ll never be over it. Don’t even say that. Okay. So yeah, the Swan House, also has the perfect staircase to walk down with her prom dress. So you have to have a staircase. I thought it was an adorable house and one of the best ones. And then next we have to talk about the colon house, so the twenties and also I think thirty-year-old Elsie. I swear. I always thought this was my dream house. I used to Google pictures of it and it was like my perfect dream house and this time when I re-watched it, I was like, oh, it’s just like a little modern house, it’s changed. It’s like the, you know how your childhood home, you imagine it one way and then you go back to drive by it and visit it, and you realize that it looks different than how it did in your memory. That’s how the Collin house was for me. I still think it’s a dream house, but it’s maybe not my dream house anymore, and it’s just very modern, like more modern. I think I imagined it as or remembered it as more cabin and less like a total new build.

Emma: Interesting because here is my take on it. I remember seeing the movie for the first time and thinking, what a beautiful house, I love it. That’s my dream house for sure, same as you. And then over the years, I was like, oh yeah, that probably wasn’t as good as I remember it. And then I re-watched it and I was like, I think I loved this house even more than I loved it in my twenties I’m like, I love this house. What was I thinking I didn’t like about this house? And I’m like, I love it. Like a very modern, cool house in the forest. I’m like, I love it. Yeah, it would not be very practical for my life and like what I do for a living, cuz there’s no way you could take good photos in that house, there are too many trees all around it. Trust me, I used to live in a house with a lot of trees around it and you just cannot take great food photos for food blogging. So it wouldn’t work for me. But if that is an Airbnb, I would love to visit sometime. 

Elsie: Yeah, no, I still think it’s a 10. It’s just not my old dream house anymore, but it is still a 10. And I would say a lot of the art in the house, I was dissecting it scene by scene when I was watching it yesterday and a lot of the art is really cheesy. A lot of the art is like, I would say a zero or a two out of 10. It’s not timeless at all. The graduation cap, the giant graduation cap frame with all his hundred graduation caps, I would say is like the best art in the house. It’s cool, it’s meaningful, it looks great and it is weird, I love that. 

Emma: Yeah, and he says it’s like a personal joke, but it also as a viewer you’re very immediately like, oh, they never have people over to the house because the other, he would immediately be like, why do they have a million graduation caps? 

Elsie: Yes, the other thing that bothered me so much, like Mike can’t let it go from the whole movie is that he doesn’t have a bed in his bedroom. Well, yeah, he doesn’t sleep. But do you seriously never plan on ever having someone to this house ever? 

Emma: I don’t think they did. I don’t think they plan to have humans over ever. 

Elsie: Since their life is designed like a cover I just thought that they would have a bed in their bedroom. I just thought it was confusing. 

Emma: I get that, but if I did have to hide who I was all the time, I think it would feel nice to have a home to go home to that wasn’t a cover. One sanctuary where I don’t have to hide, you know. 

Elsie: Okay, I changed my answer, you’re right. That is a good answer and so sweet. Yeah. I love his classical music thing. I love all the records. If I were him, I would put a bed in there just in case, but I guess he knows he doesn’t need to do that cuz they can see the future anyway. I do love the house though it’s very unique. It’s a unique, memorable movie house and whoever lives in it is their real home, which I am jealous of. 

Emma: Yes, me too. Apparently, it is still my dream house even more than before. I love a modern houses. 

Elsie: Yeah, I could definitely see you in that house, I think it’s beautiful. And the porches, in my memory looked like a cabin more. And what I looked at now, I was like, that was probably built like last year, you know? It looked very new. So let’s talk about some of the sets from the other movies, just because for me, this is definitely a comfort rewatch, but there are not as many rooms to talk about as there are in some of the other movies that we do. So I wanna talk about my favorite points from all the movies. I love the Small Town, I love the movie theater that they created for the small town. I thought that was really nostalgic and my number one favorite visual moment from any of the movies is definitely the wedding. I think that the way the white flowers hanging, the way that everything is, it is like, the ultimate dream wedding. If I had to just design a dream wedding, I would just take a picture of that and just not mess with anything else. Just print off the picture from the Twilight movie and take it to the forest, cannot be topped. It’s just so beautiful and classic looking, it is incredible. And then another, fun architectural moment from the movies is the honeymoon, vacation home. Sort of like they have their own little private island vacation. 

Emma: It’s like a breezy beach, you know, like if you were at a very fancy private resort, it would be like that kind of vibe.

Elsie: Yeah, they have a beachfront house with no one there, and they were like swimming naked in the ocean and it is magical. It’s a very beautiful house too. It’s very modern also, but in a little bit of a more coastal way and very beautiful. 

Emma: I also love that vibe cuz I love the John Wick house, as you know, and that’s a very modern but Southern California-type feel. 

Elsie: I still haven’t watched that. Someday we’ll have to.

Emma: You won’t like it, you don’t like action movies. 

Elsie: I do think action scenes are boring, but I think that a lot of good movies have a lot of action scenes. Just like all the kicking all the punching, I don’t know, had enough. Okay. So I already said my number one favorite, so I guess I can’t say that again, but the most Nancy Meyers moment from any of the films is definitely the Newlywed Cottage, so they live in their modern home, but they decide to make them sort of a wedding gift of their own little cottage where they can live for a few years. They make it seem like you can live there and then you can come back with us later on when you are not a newlywed. And you’ll notice they do have a bed in this cottage, and it is gorgeous. It’s beautiful. It’s like the perfect little, it’s perfect.

Emma: It has all the like kind of modern things or at least the things that I like about a modern house or modern architecture, but then it feels very cozy which I think is kind of what else he’s saying with the Nancy Meyers is it has like more rustic touches and just play textures, and colors. It just feels cozier. 

Elsie: Yeah, I think it goes a little bit towards the cottage from the holiday, like an English cottage. Nobody doesn’t like that. Every single person who listens to our podcast loves that cottage, we all agree on this one thing. Okay. So was there anything from Twilight that you thought did not age well or would be different today?

Emma: Yeah, it’s based on books, so there’s that as far as like changing things or updating it, it kind of doesn’t make sense because what I was gonna say is it’s kind of hilarious when she’s trying to figure out what Edward is because he’s kind of like, I’m not human-like something’s going on here. But I can’t tell you and so it’s up to her to research and figure out that he’s a vampire and she starts on the internet. And the internet in this movie is hilarious. And then she goes to a bookstore to get a book and then she reads the book cuz she couldn’t have found that information on the internet. But it’s pretty basic information about vampires and then she goes back to the internet I think any kind of pieces it all together. But anyway, I don’t know how to describe it. It’s just one of those things in movies and it’s not a bad thing. I actually enjoy seeing old versions of the internet or like flip phones and movies. I view it differently than we should update this or this makes the movie bad. I’m like, I actually love it because I remember when the internet didn’t have very much on it and when we all had flip phones and like, I know this era, so it doesn’t bother me in any way. It’s just, it really gives it a certain age and it’s also, at least for me, like it does kind of pull you out a little bit where you’re like, oh, this use of the internet is hilarious. And it takes away from the story a little bit cuz things just change over time. That’s just how it is.

Elsie: Yeah, no, I definitely agree with that. For me, I think the movie aged very well. I think that it looks cooler. Compare it to any other vampire TV show or movie, and it is aging like a dream. So thought it was great, but I think the thing that I would change about it, if I could change one thing for myself, for my own pleasure is that I think that the Vampire Edward, his character’s too boring. I think that his character doesn’t have enough of a big personality and I think if you lived for that long, you could be a lot more interesting. Especially, I feel like in the movie Robert Pattinson is just like a beautiful vampire and that is carrying like 95% of the load that you’re just interested in how beautiful he is, but like the words that he’s saying not very interesting if you were listening to the audiobook or something, which I did. So yeah, I think the characters are whatever, but I’m not gonna pick apart twilight. I’m just not going to, so let’s just not.

Emma: I feel like yeah, that’s a different discussion as far as like, do you have any problems with the book? I’m like, well, I guess I have some problems with romance as a genre, cuz there tends to be a lot of men stalking women. And that’s okay, there are things like that where you’re like, this is weird and we don’t know what we’re doing. 

Elsie: When he was staying in her bedroom, watching her sleep for two months before he told her, and that’s supposed to be like cute.

Emma: Romantic and you’re like, what? Excuse me. 

Elsie: Yeah, right. Agreed but I’m willing to overlook whatever when it comes to vampires and I will say, okay, so I read Interview with the Vampire last year, and then I think I read the first part of the Vampire Diaries, like one of those books. And then, I can’t remember if there were any more, oh, there were like the Southern vampires. It’s just fun to see each take on it. They always keep the classic mythology and then make one thing, you know, like a myth or whatever. And so I think it’s always interesting just to see like what one thing they throw out and which things they keep.

Emma: Yeah, I would say the same thing with the werewolves, which we don’t really learn about much in this first movie. I mean, it kind of gives us some idea about it, but we’re not really seeing it until the second movie. But I think that their take on werewolves is pretty interesting too, and there are lots of things from the common myth about it that they’ve kept and then there are other things that they changed. Same with their vampires, and I think that’s generally fun in monster movies. And usually, I feel like it kind of gives you an idea of what demographic they were aiming for. Like is this super edgy and for adults or is this like we could let teenagers and maybe pre-teens read these and enjoy? You kind of get a vibe and probably the same thing with witches and any kind of mythical creature or monster or whatever. Depends on how they change it for the demographic they’re aiming for.

Elsie: Totally. Okay, are you ready for some trivia? It’s trivia time. So this first one is really cute. Robert Patson learned to drive during the making of twilight. He didn’t have a driver’s license and he learned to drive in Oregon. Isn’t that cute? 

Emma: Oh my gosh, that is really cute. Also, the idea of learning to drive if it was rainy all the time kind of stresses me out. I don’t even like driving in heavy rain now. 

Elsie: No, absolutely. I thought that was a fun fact. Okay, the next one is before Robert Patson and Kristen Stewart were cast, Stephanie Meyer said she thought Henry Caval, Logan Laman, and Tom Sturge, I don’t know who that is, would be good as Edward, and she thought Elliot Page, Emily Browning or Danielle Panabaker would be good in the role of Bella. 

Emma: Yeah, I only know some of those actors. Honestly, I could see like all the ones that I know, I’m like, yeah, I could see that that would be different and interesting.

Elsie: I love Kristen Stewart in this movie. I actually couldn’t see it without either one of them. I think they’re perfect, but I think anyone else could have been too, and I think it’s just fun. I would love to see every actor play a vampire once if that were possible. 

Emma: I do love it too. I don’t know if this exists for this movie, but I do love it when it’s like on YouTube when you see a different actor who’s trying out for a role and it ended up not being them, it went to somebody else but seeing their take on it. I love watching stuff like that. I think it’s so much fun. Like audition tapes, I guess. 

Elsie: Oh yeah. I also read that Lily Collins auditioned for Bella, which she would’ve been perfect for. Okay, this one I love in all five movies, the majority of the cast were different colored eye contacts, which No including Kristen Stewart, so that her eyes would be brown to match the description of Bella in the book. I actually hadn’t noticed that before that Kirsten Stewart, it said she wore a wig and contacts in all the movies. I hadn’t really noticed that at all. So I would say her wig job and her costuming were like a 10. I couldn’t even notice that she looked different than usual. 

Emma: Yeah. I think her wig was the best one then, cuz I didn’t notice that one.

Elsie: It was really good. Oh my God, this one is about Renesmee. So Renesmee, if you’ve watched all the movies, it is a little baby. It’s a little half Vampire baby. And I would say it’s the most polarizing special effect in history. Would you agree? I can’t say enough bad things about it and how the baby looks. It’s just so funny. I wouldn’t change it though, cuz it’s so fun how bad it is, but it’s horrible. Okay, so this trivia is about, The baby Renesmee, before Renesmee was a fully grown child, played by McKenzie Foy, the younger version was created by CGI. But they initially planned for the young Renesmee to be an animatronic doll. However, the doll looked so creepy, they decided to go down the CGI route. The doll’s creator even found her creepy and said it was one of the most grotesque, animatronic babies ever to not be seen on film.

Emma: Okay, so here is the fan fiction spinoff, we need a horror movie with that animatronic doll in it.

Elsie: I love that. Oh my gosh. Yeah, I wonder where’s the doll stored, and can we see it? Can we hold it? 

Emma: Has it ever like come to life and killed half a town? Can we learn about that story?

Elsie: Can I hide it in baby Oscar’s crib? Let him find. 

Emma: He loves to be scared. 

Elsie: No, no, no, no. I wouldn’t scare him. I would just scare you. I would just replace him with the scary doll. Okay, well I love that because it’s funny it was definitely my can’t let it go. As soon as I watched the movies, I was like texting Emma about the creepy baby and I just can’t believe that there was even one worse that was not suited.

Emma: The fact that there’s something worse, they were like, this was the better option. The one that you see in the movies and you’re like, okay. 

Elsie: Yeah, and if any of you have never watched The Twilight Saga all the way through, now you have to watch it just for the creepy baby. You’re welcome. Okay, the next and last piece of trivia is, yes forks is a real place and you can go visit. Apparently, when writing the books, Stephanie Meyer wanted to set them somewhere gloomy and very overcast so her vampires wouldn’t sparkle too much and reveal themselves. So she did some research and found out that Forks is one of the rainiest places in the whole US. Now you can visit lots of these real-life locations and enjoy some of the rain yourself. I think that’s great. I always wonder how people in like a movie town feel about their town’s fame because it’s fairly recent and I would love to hear what the residents think about it, but I would imagine it has its pros and cons. But if it’s just mostly nerds coming to take a picture by like the sign and things like that, that are in the movie.

Emma: Wait a second. Nerds. I was about to say, we need to go there for a sister trip. 

Elsie: Oh, I’m accepting the invitation. We’re going, that sounds great. 

Emma: It sounds very cozy and fun, it’s gonna be a blast. 

Elsie: Yeah, we can get a grilled cheese. 

Emma: We can go to the weird bookstore. It’ll be great. 

Elsie: Okay. The answer is yes. I would love to go. But yeah, I think that’s cool that it’s set in a real place. I like it whenever in books and movies when there’s a small town or a place I always look up to see if it’s real, like every single thing. And I love it when it’s real and I also love it when it’s not real. So either way it’s great, but I think that it’s cool that it’s based on a real place. 

Emma: Yeah, so far I’ve only written two books, but I always have one of my major settings in Missouri. Because on the off chance that someday something got made into a movie, I really hope they would actually film part of it in Missouri, cuz I love Missouri. It’s where I’m from and I just am really proud show me state gal. I don’t know. So I just like to kind of set it. I don’t even know if people would like that.

Elsie: It’s one of my dreams for Missouri is that people would film there more because it is very beautiful and there are lots of places in the US where movies get filmed, but Missouri really is not one of them. There’s hardly ever, even when there’s a show about Missouri, like Ozark, they still didn’t film most of it in actual Missouri. 

Emma: Yeah, I feel like a lot of it’s in Georgia or something. I feel like there’s a probably a lot of tax breaks that I don’t really know about. Union stuff, there’s probably a lot of things like that that I don’t know about, but I just think that Missouri has all four seasons, and the Ozarks in particular are just so beautiful. So yeah, same. I kind of hope there are more positive things filmed here cause I just think it’s really a beautiful part of the country. But I’m also biased cuz I’m from here and I love it. 

Elsie: It’s fun reading something about your area and Yeah, like where we grew up in Missouri, besides Gone Girl, there are not very many things.

Emma: I think in the book Born Supremacy, he’s like from Nixa, and then obviously the show Ozarks is kind of a thing now, obviously cuz it’s a very big show. I’m trying to think what else is from around here. I feel like every once in a while Springfield will get mentioned, but more often it’s Kansas City or St. Louis, but I feel like Kansas City in particular, we’ll get a few things here and there cuz it’s a bigger city in Missourian. I don’t know why that matters, but people set things there more. 

Elsie: I just read this book called Nothing to See Here by Kevin Wilson last week and it was set in the exact area where I’m living right now in Tennessee. And for every location in the book, I knew exactly where it was. And I even suspect that I know what farm he was using as inspiration, it’s so clear. Anyway, it’s fun to read a book about a place that, you know, and it’s so unusual unless you live in New York City or somewhere like that. Me, I hardly ever read a book about, where I’ve lived. 

Emma: Yeah, me too. I’m sure if you live in LA and New York, you’re like, yeah, every story’s about me, but for us it’s rare. 

Elsie: So let’s give the movie our rating between zero to five vampires. 

Emma: I would give it four outta five vampires. Pretty good. Okay.

Elsie: Well I’m definitely gonna go full five out of five vampires just because I think that if you love vampires, it is an unskippable classic. It’s wonderful and I see why. I know some people are not gonna believe that this was a highly requested rewatch, but it is a highly requested rewatch from our listeners. And I think that I get it. I am in the category of people who find this to be a comfort movie and, I don’t know, just like it has that cozy feeling, even though. The interiors are not up to the Nancy Meyer standard, but I still think it has so many other things that are cozy and wonderful about it. 

Emma: I agree. Yep. I was honestly sick and I was texting you, I was like, where can I find twilight? Cause I was like, at least I could do our rewatch. And that was like the one on the list that as I was sick and just needing to lay down for a while, I was like, I wanna watch Twilight. That truly was a comfort watch for me as I was getting over a little sickness.
