Fox News Reveals Tucker Carlson’s Replacement

It’s been two month since Fox News shockingly fired the legendary Tucker Carlson, and his replacement has just been revealed.

Carlson’s Replacement Is Revealed

Daily Mail reported that Fox has announced that Jesse Watters will be taking over Carlson’s coveted 8pm time slot. Laura Ingraham will then move up to the 7pm time slot, and Greg Gutfeld will be brought up to 10pm. Meanwhile, Sean Hannity will be staying in his longtime 9pm time slot.

“Fox News Channel has been America’s destination for news and analysis for more than 21 years and we are thrilled to debut a new lineup,” Fox News CEO Suzanne Scott said in a statement on Monday morning.

“The unique perspectives of Laura Ingraham, Jesse Watters, Sean Hannity, and Greg Gutfeld will ensure our viewers have access to unrivaled coverage from our best-in-class team for years to come,” she continued.

Watters’ History

Watters, 44, got his start as a production assistant on “The O’Reilly Factor” when he was only 24 years-old, and he quickly earned himself a reputation as a dogged man-on-the street correspondent.

Watters’ O’Reilly segment that saw him do ambush-style interviews eventually became a weekly television show on Fox that aired on Saturdays. This show, which was called “Watters World,” had an average of 1.9 million viewers per episode before it was pulled last year.

Watters was then given a nightly program called “Jesse Watters Primetime,” which has an impressive average of about 2.6 million viewers a night. After Carlson’s firing, many speculated that it would be Watters who would replace him, given the ratings he commands and his charismatically fun onscreen persona. Sources at Fox News told The Daily Beast that this primetime shakeup was the “safe” move for the network.

Carlson Fired

Fans were stunned when Carlson was abruptly fired by Fox back in April despite arguably being the most popular host on the network for years.

“FOX News Media and Tucker Carlson have agreed to part ways,” Fox said in a brief statement, according to CNBC. “We thank him for his service to the network as a host and prior to that as a contributor.”

Carlson has since started his own show on Twitter that has been hugely successful.

“Amazingly, as of tonight, there aren’t many platforms left that allow free speech. The last big one remaining in the world, the only one, is Twitter, where we are now,” Carlson said in his first episode. “Twitter has long served as the place where our national conversation incubates and develops. Twitter is not a partisan site, everybody’s allowed here, and we think that’s a good thing.”

“When you take a little time off, you realize how unbelievably stupid the debates you see on television are, they’re completely irrelevant,” he added.

Cease-And-Desist Letter

Fox fired back by sending Carlson a cease-and-desist letter alleging a breach of contract by launching a new show on the social media platform.

“Fox News continues to ignore the interests of its viewers, not to mention its shareholder obligations,” Harmeet Dhillon, one of Carlson’s lawyers, told NBC News in response. “Doubling down on the most catastrophic programming decision in the history of the cable news industry, Fox is now demanding that Tucker Carlson be silent until after the 2024 election. Tucker will not be silenced by anyone.”

Carlson has continued to release weekly episodes, with his most recent one dropping last Thursday.

Carlson has yet to comment on the news that Watters is replacing him. While Carlson’s presence on Fox News is deeply missed, it’s hard to argue against Watters being the best option to replace him. Only time will tell if Watters will be able to fill Carlson’s shoes!
