Gay Bar Joins Bud Light Boycott – Says Anheuser-Busch ‘Abandoned’ LGBTQ Community

A gay bar in Minneapolis, Minnesota has surprisingly joined the boycott against Bud Light, but not for the reason that much of the rest of the country has ditched the beer brand.

Gay Bar Joins Anheuser-Busch Boycott

The New York Post reported that the Minneapolis gay bar that is known as The Saloon has replaced all Anheuser-Busch products, which include Bud Light, with beers from local breweries because it feels that the company has “abandoned” the queer community in the wake of the backlash over Bud Light teaming up with the transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney for an ad campaign.

“Anheuser-Busch had an opportunity to support a marginalized community in a way that few other corporations have attempted, but they abandoned that direction. We view that as unacceptable,” said John Moore, the owner of The Saloon.  “I’m so protective of doing business with people who have integrity and don’t get into an anti-queer agenda.”

Instead of supporting Anheuser-Busch, Moore wants to sell beers from “local companies that actively support and grow the LGBTQIA+ community.”

One brewery that is being supported by The Saloon is Bauhaus, which told CBS News that it is “thrilled to announce our partnership with The Saloon for a weekend of joyous celebration.”

“We are proud to state that supporting Pride and the LGBTQ+ community aligns perfectly with our brewery’s values,” the brewery continued. “We are dedicated to fostering an inclusive and diverse environment, and we are honored to contribute to the vibrant celebrations of Pride alongside The Saloon.”

Anheuser-Busch Loses Billions

Anheuser-Busch has lost nearly $28 billion in market value since teaming up with Mulvaney back in March, as conservative consumers have launched a hugely successful boycott of Bud Light. While Anheuser-Busch has yet to apologize for the Mulvaney campaign, it has made some steps to distance itself from the controversy, with CEO Brendan Whitworth saying that the company “never intended to be part of a discussion that divides people.”

Marcel Marcondes, the global chief marketing officer, recently addressed the controversy as well, saying that it was a “wake-up call” for marketers like himself to be “very humble” during times that are divisive.

“It’s tough to see the controversial and divisive debates that have been happening in the U.S. in the last couple of weeks involving lots of brands and companies, including and especially Bud Light,” he said. “It’s tough exactly because what we do is all about bringing people together.”

John Rich Stops Serving Bud Light

The country music star John Rich recently revealed that he’s stopped serving Bud Light at his Nashville bar Redneck Riviera.

“The customers aren’t going to order it,” Rich told Fox News. “I’m not going to stock it. We’ve only got limited area. I’ve got a limited bar. It’s like… I’ve got to put beer and whiskey and vodkas up here that people want to purchase and they want to support… And brother, I can tell you right now, it’s a vicious attitude toward Bud Light.”

Gay bars dropping Anheuser-Busch will come as very bad news to the company, as it shows that both sides have now turned on them. In the end, they’ve definitely learned the hard way that when you go woke, you also go broke!
