‘He’s gone full Peter Odemwingie’

Moises Caicedo was accused of going ‘full Peter Odemwingie’ in his attempt to force a move out of Brighton.

The midfielder took to Instagram on Friday to plea with his club to let him go after the Seagulls rejected bids from Arsenal and Chelsea.

He wrote on social media that he wants to ‘take up this magnificent opportunity’ to join one of the Premier League’s top clubs, with the January transfer window set to close on Tuesday.

It is an interesting development in this particular transfer story, with Caicedo clearly wanting to leave for pastures new.

Although, talkSPORT understands Brighton have told all interested clubs that Caicedo is categorically NOT for sale this window.

talkSPORT host Adam Catterall has likened it to Odemwingie’s famous saga in 2013, when he drove to Queens Park Rangers in an attempt to leave West Brom after criticising the club on Twitter.

“This man has gone full Peter Odemwingie on this,” said Catterall on the Sports Bar.

“As far as I know, he’s still a Brighton and Hove Albion player. He ain’t going anywhere as of yet, but he’s having none of it.

“He’s on his social media as we speak, he’s made the Instagram post, he’s made it official ladies and gentlemen.”

Alongside him was former West ham striker Carlton Cole, who added: “He’s written an essay!”

Caicedo’s statement was posted shortly after Manchester City’s 1-0 FA Cup win against Arsenal, a game where Gunners midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga struggled.

“Do you know what he’s done?” pondered Cole. “He’s seen that Lokonga stinker and he’s thinking, ‘Nah, I’m the guy, we’re off, fight time!’”

Despite Caicedo’s willingness to leave, talkSPORT understands Brighton will not be forced into a sale this month.

Arsenal and Chelsea have both seen their respective bids of £60million and £55million rejected.

The 21-year-old has also been given time off until after the window has shut, and the Seagulls expect him to be part of their team for the rest of the season.
