Holger Rune bluntly rips ATP following Monte Carlo loss to Jannik Sinner

Holger Rune ripped the ATP Tour after a video posted from their Monte Carlo Masters quarterfinal match as the Dane made it perfectly clear he wasn’t happy with several things from their match.

In a high-level match but also high-intensity, Sinner overcame Rune 6-4 6-7 (6) 6-3 after two hours and 40 minutes of play. Throughout the match, Sinner had the crowd on his side and not only that Rune had to deal with boos, he also dealt with some situations where he felt he was wronged.

After starting his Monte Carlo opener on Wednesday against Sumit Nagal, Rune finished the match only on Thursday after the rain previously suspended the match. Hours after beating Nagal, Rune returned to the court to play and beat Grigor Dimitrov 7-6 (9) 3-6 7-6 (2).

On Friday, Rune returned to the court to play his third match in two days. Serving at 5-5 in the second set, Rune was slapped with a time violation before also receiving a code violation for unsportsmanlike conduct – that led to the Dane requesting to talk with the supervisor.

In the second-set tie-break, a line umpire called out on of Sinner’s shots – the chair umpire overruled it – the replay shown on TV revealed that the ball was indeed out and the initial call should have stayed.

Rune rips the ATP

“Meaning what @atptour …..? Not that you gave me the best conditions in the first place having to play 2 matches the day before ending late , leaving almost no recovery time. Chair Umpire making crucial mistakes and giving wrong warning that disturbed the game. May the force be with you. Jesus Christ,” Rune wrote on X.

Although Rune managed to save two match points in the second set and force a decider, he ultimately fell short in his bid to complete a comeback.

However, Rune had his chances in the third set as he missed out on a break point in the fifth game before getting broken in the eighth game.

Rune will now turn his focus to the Madrid Masters, which starts in just over a week.
