Holger Rune reveals he decided to watch the 2019 Wimbledon final between Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic before his first grass match of the season. Rune, 20, kicked off his grass season this week at the Queen’s Club. In his first grass match of the year, Rune defeated the big-serving Maxime Cressy 7-6 (4) 7-6 (3) for his first-ever win on the grass – previously, the Dane was 0-3 on the surface.
After beating Cressy, Rune also saw off Ryan Peniston 6-3 6-4 in the Queen’s round-of-16. In Queen’s, Rune was asked whether he looked up to any players for grass inspiration.

“Actually, it’s funny you say it.
It was yesterday, no, the day before my first round, I was watching Roger against Novak. This epic final where Roger had those match points and stuff. I was watching a little bit on their movements on the side, and honestly, it looks like they are playing on hard courts because they are so balanced.
It doesn’t look like they have to make those adjustment steps in the side which you see many players does. I have been trying to be like really, really strong on my legs in the side so I don’t have to run one, two, three more steps.
I think it’s a lot about the balance and the strength in the legs. I told my fitness coach, and we have been working on this every day to activate the glutes, the legs, everything to be able to be stronger,” Rune said, via Express-Sport.
After Queen’s, Rune will also play a few matches at The Boodles next week. Last year, Rune suffered a first-round defeat in his Wimbledon debut. For this summer, one of Rune’s goals is certainly to do better at Wimbledon. It remains to be seen how well can Rune do during this year’s grass season.
