Iga Swiatek: “I always feel better on the court”

Iga Swiatek has not lost a single game against Xinyu Wang, it is the fourth bagel inflicted on her rivals in this edition of the Roland Garros, and has gained access to the round of 16. The Polish tennis player will not even be forced to deal in the upper part of the scoreboard with one of the few tennis players capable of putting her in serious difficulty, because Elena Rybakina announced the forfeit even before taking the field for her third round match.

However, pressure could play a fundamental role in the final stages of the tournament: the first position in the ranking and the defense of the title are at stake.

Swiatek comments on the double bagel inflicted on Wang

In the press conference, Iga said: “Positive aspects? The way I kept my concentration high throughout the game.

I keep feeling better and better on the court and that’s what I wanted to achieve at the start of the tournament. I’m glad I was composed for the whole game. In the first two games I struggled with the conditions, but today I was able to control the ball better.

I want to be ready in every situation. I don’t think it’s a problem for me to win a game so easily, I try to think about the positive aspects and my confidence grows.” Swiatek didn’t have one of the best moments of her career earlier in the season, when she left the Australian Open in the round of 16.

A hard defeat to digest, which however helped the Pole. She explained: “During the preseason you think a lot. Last year I didn’t think about what other people were saying and it was easy to manage expectations. At the end of the season I had time to reflect and think about what happened.

In Australia it was difficult to break this cycle. I’ll try to do something different next time. I felt observed, because for the first time I was starting the season as number one. All those thoughts conditioned me. Sometimes it’s hard to handle the pressure and be on top for a long time.

But during the season you will always have ups and downs: you just have to accept it. I’m working hard to try and drop all of those things and just focus on tennis.”
