Daniil Medvedev admits even when is unsure why it took him so long to start playing great again. After blowing a two-set lead in the 2022 Australian Open final against Rafael Nadal, Medvedev didn’t do very well in the rest of 2022 despite winning titles in Los Cabos in Vienna.
At the start of the 2023 season, Medvedev had a disappointing Australian Open as he was ousted by Sebastian Korda in the third round. In mid-February, Medvedev returned to action and captured back-to-back titles in Rotterdam and Doha.
Medvedev, who briefly exited the top-10 after the Australian Open, has returned to No 7 in the world. “I don’t know why it took me so long to get back in form, so to speak. It could be different reasons, but I don’t know if there was one key or it was all together.
I always worked very hard with my team to be my best, that’s how I am, I always want to be at my best, I always want to win, but for a while it didn’t work. That’s why I deservedly left the top 10, although that was not an easy moment.
I managed to get it back right now, just by working hard,” Medvedev explained, per Punto de Break.
Medvedev: Winning increases confidence
After winning his first title of the season in Rotterdam, Medvedev also made it all the way the following week in Doha.
This week, Medvedev has been through to the Dubai semifinal. At the moment, Medvedev is feeling very confident and that is showing on the court. “I feel great, confidence is very important in tennis, you all know that.
I think every tennis player has different approaches to confidence, for example, for me it is more important to have confidence in the moment, not when remembering that I already did well last year. Maybe with Novak it’s different, because in Australia when he plays no matter what happened before, he always finds confidence there. For me it is more important at the moment, now I feel great,” Medvedev said.
