Golf influencer Paige Spirinac takes no prisoners – just ask Phil Mickelson.
The LIV Golf player took aim at Sam Ryder’s outfit at the Farmers Insurance Open last week for deciding to wear joggers.
“The Tour doesn’t allow shorts but does allow this week’s leader to wear joggers with ankle socks?” he tweeted. “Showing four inches of ankle? I’m no fashion guy, never will be, but there are some things I won’t ever understand.”
Spirinac, someone who likes to poke fun at the rules around attire on the golf course, laughed when discussing the conversation around Ryder’s clothing on her podcast Playing a Round.
“Phil Mickelson tweeted to ask: ‘How can you show four inches of skin?’ Also, if Phil thinks that’s four inches, I feel sorry for his wife [Amy].
“He was showing maybe an inch of ankle, they weren’t super tight. I thought he looked good but it just shows how incredibly frustrating golf Twitter can be that they were so bothered by Sam Ryder wearing joggers.
“If there is anything slightly different in golf, everyone freaks out.”
Spiranac, 29, has built up a following on social media for her love of golf as well as her lucrative modelling career.
She won her first professional event at Orange Tree Country Club in Arizona on the developmental Cactus Tour in 2016.
However, she turned to other business ventures that yeat when she was unable to earn a card for the LGPA circuit.
Spiranac has more than 3.7m followers on Instagram alone and joked in October when it was revealed she was the most followed golfer in the world: “This just in. Men like golf and boobs.”
There are some estimates that put her earnings per post above £10k and she regularly posts about the sport and even picked Cameron Smith to win The Open last year, joking people would be richer if they turned sound on during her videos.
