Daniil Medvedev lost his third final at the Australian Open, for the second time after leading 2-0. Another mental disappointment for the Russian tennis player, who played two exceptional sets, before slowly declining physically and conceding more and more to his opponent Jannik Sinner. A nightmare already experienced in 2022.

The result ultimately rewarded the 22-year-old Italian, who thus joined him in terms of number of Slams won

Medvedev could only compliment Sinner, in the on-court interview, trying to predict what the future of the young Italian tennis player will be.

“Congratulations Jannik. You have shown once again that you have raised your level, you deserve this trophy. You have grown, you have fought, we have competed in several finals and I have lost three in a row. I will try to win the next one, but congratulations for this success because you really deserved it. I’m sure it won’t be your last Slam final,” he declared.

“Dascha and Alyssa, I had the feeling that you were here with me”

“I thank my team, especially Gilles and Gaetan who have been here for many days, there have been very long nights and they have never stopped encouraging me. And then all the other people present in my corner. Dascha and Alyssa, I don’t know if they turned off the TV but I had the feeling that you were here with me. Unfortunately I couldn’t make it, I’ll try to make it next time,” said Medvedev, sharing tender words for his daughters.

“It’s been an extraordinary two weeks, it’s tough to lose in the final but it’s better than losing first. I always want to win, I’ll have to fight even harder to do it, but I’m still proud. I’ll give it my all when I get the next opportunity,” epxlained the Russian tennis player.

Sinner is the youngest to win in Melbourne since Novak Djokovic in 2008, the opponent he defeated in the semi-final in his reign, interrupting a streak of 33 consecutive victories.

Outside of the Big 3, only Sinner and Stan Wawrinka have raised the trophy at the Australian Open in the last 19 years. The 22-year-old opted for the craziest way possible to enter Olympus and completed a sensational comeback against Daniil Medvedev in the final with a score of 3-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3 in three hours and 44 minutes.
