“I want to be seeded again in big tournaments”

Stan Wawrinka, after a very long ordeal, at 37, seems to be experiencing a new youth. Physical problems seem to be a distant memory for the Swiss, who is playing more and more games and finding more and more victories, even in more important tournaments.

In fact, he made his successful debut at the Indian Wells ATP Master 1000, where he overtook the Australian Aleksandar Vukic but, above all, found the Top-100 again. Wawrinka who, at this point, is seriously aiming to climb the standings, explained: “It’s an important victory, I want to continue like this because I feel physically well and I’ve found the competitive rhythm and game intelligence to compete at a high level.

Getting back in the Top-100 meant a lot to me and I want to keep progressing. My goal is to be seeded in the big tournaments in the near future.”

Wawrinka and the exciting return to the Top-100

The journey of finding Stan Wawrinka is to be taken as an example.

Forced to stay in the pits from March 2021 to April 2022, and with an age that certainly wasn’t on his side, the three-time Grand Slam champion found mental strength above all and decided to take advantage of the chances he had left before closing the own career.

Perseverance that Wawrinka is largely repaying, who is making great use of the tailwind of this beginning of 2023, two consecutive quarter-finals in Rotterdam and Marseille, to achieve unexpected results until not long ago.

Above all, his return to the top hundred in the world, a goal that the Swiss recently celebrated on social media with great emotional transport.
Wawrinka wrote on Twitter: “Work hard and follow your dreams, but never forget where you’re from!

1- the young me who dreams of entering the ATP Top-100; 2 – the grown me entering the ATP Top-100 again! I’ve achieved so much more than I ever dreamed of, but it will always be special.” Below you can read the tweet shard by Stan Wawrinka on his social media:
