Roland Garros: Iga Swiatek again Queen! The Highlights of the final

Iga Swiatek wins the third Roland Garros final, the second in a row in the French capital. In this last act, the world number one beat the surprise of the tournament, Karolina Muchova, with the result of 6-2, 5-7, 6-4. Break at the beginning and final break for a first set that sees a ruler: the holder of the title and the number one in the world.

She starts better and closes better, although in the middle of her Muchova has chances to regain the score: the fifth game, the fought one, offers her a break point, canceled however by the holder of the title. Her tennis, made up of a forehand along a precise line, of different variations, of a back that few tennis players have on the circuit and of an excellent descent to the net, does not completely worry the Polish tennis player.

Her defense is always effective, rejecting anything and confusing the Czech tennis player, who sometimes makes a mistake in the choice and sometimes in the execution. Thus, the lack of precision and lack of lucidity deliver the first set of the final to Iga Swiatek.

Not only a matter of gameplay, but also physics. Swiatek has all the credentials to win the battle with a run and a breath, while Muchova is in trouble when the exchange tends to lengthen. Photograph that is returned right in the first game of the second set, where the Czech decides to answer further just to try to prolong the exchange: an experiment that she succeeds.

So she recovers the break immediately at the partial start and thus she gets the break point at 4-4. From here, she is a waltz of breaks and counter-breaks, in the name of whoever makes mistakes the less she wins, but both protagonists of non-trivial mistakes.

She makes mistakes less Muchova, who thus wins the second set. In the third and decisive set, an empty pass seems to compromise Swiatek’s match. The Grand Slam champion, however, after having suffered a run of 8 points to zero, responds with the counter break and the first advantage of the set.

Break by the Czech on 3-3, subsequent counter-break and back on 4-4. For the second time, however, Swiatek takes the lead on the score of 5-4: Muchova serves, but the number one is unstoppable. Starting from the answer it hurts her opponent, the Czech has to give up on 40-15, also guilty of mistakes that end the match earlier.

Swiatek’s match point is a double fault by Muchova. Below the highlights (Video Credits: Roland Garros YouTube page): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3aVEdw3ATQY
