Iga Swiatek provides promising update ahead of 2023 season

World No 1 Iga Swiatek says she is fully rested and looking forward to the 2023 season. Swiatek, 21, had a very long, demanding and successful 2022 season. Before the WTA Finals, Swiatek admitted that she was fatigued and exhausted.

In the end, Swiatek ended up suffering a surprise defeat to Aryna Sabalenka in the semifinal at the season-ending tournament. After the WTA Finals, Swiatek hit vacation mode. “For the first time in a long time I had the opportunity to be on holiday, where I had nothing to do.

I needed it so much. Including the flights, I had six and a half days of holiday in total, but I feel refreshed. I’ve already got my inner motivation back,” Swiatek told Asics.

Swiatek looking forward to playing in Dubai

Between 19-24 December, the inaugural edition of the World Tennis League will be taking place.

Swiatek will be representing the Kites Team as Holger Rune, Felix Auger-Aliassime and Eugenie Bouchard will be her teammates. The World Tennis League is set to feature some of the biggest names of the game as Novak Djokovic, Nick Kyrgios and reigning Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina are also expected to play.

“I am delighted to be starting in Dubai. I love team competition, being in a team. For the first time it will not be a Polish team, but an international one. My coach thinks it will be good training to play matches with good players during the preparation period.

I am curious to know how I will feel during this competition. We will be leaving in mid-December, so I will be spending Christmas away from home this year. Coming back from Dubai to Warsaw, then travelling from Warsaw to Dubai to Australia would be a very physically demanding start to the season.

These are the sacrifices an athlete has to be aware of. I hope that I will spend this time in Dubai resting,” Swiatek explained.
