Iga Swiatek revealed she felt “a sudden pain in my right thigh” before leaving the court for a medical timeout and eventually retiring injured in her Rome quarterfinal against Elena Rybakina. In the second-set tie-break, Swiatek hurt her thigh and left the court for an off-court medical timeout after Rybakina forced a third set.

Swiatek played four games in the third set before calling it a match. Swiatek did a quick examination with the physio shortly after the match, who told her it probably wasn’t a serious injury. “I felt pain in my right thigh.

It was pretty sudden. At the beginning I didn’t really know if it was serious or not. We did an examination with the physio afterwards. It shouldn’t be anything serious, so I’m pretty positive that I’ll be back soon,” Swiatek said, per the AP.

Swiatek turns her focus on being fit for the French Open

“To be ready for Roland Garros I need to recover right now. I’m going to take couple of days off. Since Stuttgart I wasn’t really able to recover with that tight schedule that we have on WTA,” Swiatek added.

Swiatek’s retirement against Rybakina worried her fans, with some fearing whether the Pole would be healthy enough for the French Open. On Thursday morning, Swiatek shared an update to her fans. In one of the two tweets Swiatek posted on Thursday, the Pole said she is definitely going to Paris.

“Hi Guys. I’m sure you’re thinking about what happened last night. We’re checking it. During the second set I got a thigh injury. The diagnostic is in progress. More info in the following days. Will keep you updated,” Swiatek tweeted on Thursday morning.

On Thursday, Swiatek sent out another tweet: “Quick update. A couple of days off for sure. And booking my flight to Paris, so…fingers crossed, please! Hopefully, see you soon.”
