Incoming Chelsea signing Benoit Badiashile was reminded about his manners by Arsenal legend Thierry Henry at Monaco

Chelsea are on the brink of signing Benoit Badiashile from Monaco to bolster their defence, but he once got on the wrong side of Thierry Henry.

The Arsenal legend was in charge of the Ligue 1 outfit back in 2018 – though his time at the club did not last long after getting the sack following a spell of 11 defeats in 20 games.

Nevertheless, French wonderkid Badiashile – who was just 19 at the time – still managed to get in his manager’s bad books during a press conference back in December 2018.

The centre-back was enjoying a breakthrough campaign at the Stade Louis II but was brought back down to earth with an icy glare from Henry after forgetting his manners in front of his coach.

The teenager was sat next to Henry as they answered questions ahead of a crucial Champions League clash against Borussia Dortmund when Badiashile made his way out of the room after the presser had concluded.

However, as he jumped up out of his seat and made his way out of the room, Henry called him back and waited for the defender to return to tuck in his chair so that he could get past.

It was quite the reminder from the Monaco boss to respect the coach, though the pair must have reconciled after as Badiashile went on to start against Dortmund.

However, the youngster could not prevent a damaging defeat to the Bundesliga outfit, who went on to win 2-0 while Monaco ended their Champions League campaign that year without a single win.

Since then, Badiashile has gone on to become one of the most sought-after defenders in the world after developing his game further and impressing over the following years.

It has led to intense speculation that he is set to sign for Chelsea after a reported £35million fee was agreed this month with the Blues in a sticky situation.

Graham Potter has come under growing pressure already as coach of the Stamford Bridge outfit after one win in nine Premier League matches, sitting ninth in the table.

Chelsea have already confirmed a deal for promising striker David Datro Fofana and are also closing in on a deal for World Cup sensation Enzo Fernandez for a British transfer record.
