Paula Badosa was forced to pull out of the Canadian Open this week, right at the last minute due to her back injury. Poland’s Magdalena Frech replaced the Spaniard in the draw and will play 11th seed Beatriz Haddad Maia in the round-of-64.On Monday evening, the former world no.

2 posted an update on Instagram regarding the status of her health. In English she shared, “Still trying my best to comeback as soon as possible but pain is still there. I’m going to be some weeks out of competition.

It’s being a hard time but hopefully I can comeback soon. Thanks for support”.

Physique keeps letting down Paula Badosa

This year, Badosa’s sustained quite a few injuries. At the start of the year Down Under, she was forced out of the Australian Open after having injured her right thigh while playing the Adelaide International.

She did make a return to the tour right after and was able to post some good results. This included reaching the quarter-finals during the clay swing: at the Charleston Open, Stuttgart Open and the Rome Open. However, right after the Rome Open, she developed a stress fracture on her spine.

This meant she was out of commission for Roland Garros.Badosa did make a comeback and played Wimbledon but she wasn’t without pain there, too. Eventually, she had to forfeit her round-of-64 clash against Marta Kostyuk, partway.

Badosa and Stefanos Tsitsipas, who were to play mixed doubles at the Championships, also withdrew from the mixed doubles draw on account of her ill-health.The 25-year-old’s statement now makes it ominous that she could be out of the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati and also the last Slam of the year, the US Open, as well.

Although Paula Badosa’s best results at Flushing Meadows and the Canadian Open have been reaching the second round on back-to-back occasions in 2021 and 2022, she’s had a good result in Cincinnati.
