Roy Keane criticised Brazil’s dancing celebrations during their 4-1 win over South Korea, describing them as ‘really disrespectful’.
Tite’s side were at the top of their game in their World Cup Round of 16 clash with as they raced to a 4-0 lead inside the first 36 minutes of the match.
As well as goals from Vinicius Jr, Neymar, Richarlison and Lucas Paqueta, Brazil enjoyed themselves in celebration after doing a celebratory dance after every strike as they broke out the samba style in Qatar.
They even managed to get head coach Tite involved as Richarlison ran to the bench and embraced the Brazil coach in dance.
But while the football world embraced Brazil’s colourful celebrations, Manchester United legend Keane wasn’t as appreciative.
Speaking at half-time on ITV, Keane joked: “I’ve never seen so much dancing. It’s like watching Strictly!”
The Irishman then went on to express his displeasure at the celebrations.
Asked if Brazil were taking the mickey, Keane said: “I don’t like this.
“I know it’s about culture, but I think it’s really disrespectful to the opposition.
“It’s 4-0 and they’re doing it every time.
“I don’t mind the first jig but after that and then the manager getting involved with it? I’m not happy with it, I don’t think it’s good at all.”
Brazil manager Tite insisted his involvement in the celebrations had been pre-planned and was not aimed at mocking the South Koreans.
“I said (to Richarlison) if you show it to me I’ll do it, but we have to be careful because various people will say it was disrespectful,” said Tite.
“I didn’t want it to be misinterpreted as anything less than a sense of happiness for the goal and for the result, and not that we were disrespecting our opponent which was not the case.”
And talkSPORT’s Dean Ashton believes that people like Keane ought to lighten up.
When asked by Adrian Durham whether the celebrations could be interpreted as disrespectful, Ashton said on commentary for talkSPORT: “You’re so grumpy. It’s the World Cup!
“Scoring a goal in the World Cup and what it means to players. Brazilians down the years have loved the celebration side of it.
“Players like Bebeto, I always picture them running to the bench and just jumping into a sea of yellow and green tracksuits, that’s what they’ve always done.
“I don’t mind it. Scoring a goal is a beautiful thing, let them have a dance, celebrate and enjoy themselves.”
Paik Seung-ho pulled one back for South Korea in the second half as Brazil ran out 4-1 winners. Needless to say there was no dancing after that goal.
