Grigor Dimitrov also said it and, looking closely at the first three months of the season, the No.2 spot in the ATP ranking seems restrictive. Jannik Sinner is currently the best tennis player in the world. The data and statistics of 2024 say this, the year in which Jannik is obtaining the fruits of the work perpetuated in the last ten years.
The Italian won the Miami Open, thus gaining his third title of the season in just three months. And what titles! Australian Open, Rotterdam and the Miami Open.
And Sinner matched a Roger Federer’s milestone, in 2024. There is one piece of data to confirm it. Sinner is the first tennis player to win the Australian Open and Miami Open in a calendar year since for the first time since the Swiss Maestro, who did it last time in that magical 2017, when he won the Australian Open and Miami (and Indian Wells, completing the Sunshine Doubles)

Furthermore, the Italian has joined a small club of players able of winning the Australian Open and a title between Indian Wells and Miami, a figure referring only to the 21st century. In addition to the aforementioned Federer, there are Andre Agassi, Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal.
Sinner demonstrated the progress and champion qualities that are now indisputable. The Italian did like Novak Djokovic: he rose to the next level at the most important moment. After a start to the tournament with some physical problems (also due to the crazy goal in Miami), from the semifinal in Florida with Daniil Medvedev, it was practically impossible to oppose his strength.
Jannik Sinner says his parents won’t travel to many tournaments, ‘For me, it’s more important if they’re happy’
“You talked about your parents, that they’re still hard-working, blue-collar people that are still working.

In fact, Jannik left three games to the Russian and then only four to Grigor Dimitrov in the final. And consider that the Bulgarian had been impeccable up to that point, from every point of view.

Sinner analyzes the victory at the Miami Open
Sinner analyzed the triumph at the Miami Open at the press conference. The victory in the final against Grigor Dimitrov allowed the young Italian to become ATP No.2 for the first time in his career.
“It certainly means a lot to me. Although it is more important to think about the great performances in the semi-final and final. Being number 2 is a fantastic feeling. I never thought I’d get to this point. I come from a very normal family. My father is still working, as is my mother. For me sport is one thing and life is another. I am very happy to be in this position. I’m just enjoying every moment. Those are special days to win a tournament,” he told.
Jannik then talked about the ability to handle pressure: “Maybe in the future I will handle it even better, I don’t know. But my personality today is really trying to stay calm. On the other hand you must never sit down, you must attack. If I lose the game by attacking and trying to win it, that’s better for me than standing back and seeing what might happen. I have to stay mentally focused in every situation. A lot can happen on the court.”
Sinner then talked about how he didn’t expect to become ATP No.2 so quickly
“I certainly didn’t expect it, I’d be lying if I told you otherwise. I felt ready to do well this year, because I had a great offseason and a great season finale last year. Beating Novak twice was important for me. There were weeks where I was really consistent.
As for me, I felt ready to achieve great results. Every tournament I entered I felt I had a good solution to play well. I also love playing on hard courts, which gives me this extra confidence,” he explained.
