Jannik Sinner talked about one of his victories against his rival Carlos Alcaraz. The Italian and the Spaniard have already played 7 matches against each other on the ATP circuit and many are now talking about a healthy rivalry that has been created between the two.

The Italian tennis player, thanks to the victory obtained in Beijing in the semi-final, has regained the lead in the head-to-head matches (4-3) and can’t wait to face the Spaniard again, perhaps in the ATP Finals in Turin.

In an interview with the ATP, Sinner recalled one of the four victories obtained. The match in question is Miami’s Master 1000 semifinal this season.

Sinner recalls his unforgettable victory against Alcaraz

“It was very windy in Miami and it wasn’t easy to play.

I remember my debut against Laslo Djere, it was very tough, but I managed to win. Then I felt very good with Dimitrov, Rublev and all the others. In my head I knew I lost to Carlos in Indian Wells. Obviously it was very difficult to play against him, but I also had time to improve the tactical part, which was definitely better than in Indian Wells.

I just tried to play my tennis aggressively from the beginning. I served really well and in the end it was a very tough match. I was ahead in the set. At one point Carlos made a drop shot, I returned it, stayed behind the line and made a cross-court pass.

The reaction from the crowd and everyone was incredible but in the end I lost the game on serve. We both had several opportunities to win the set, but he managed to change gear and that’s what I was trying to do. The decisive set? At the beginning Alcaraz started to suffer a bit physically and I tried to give more.

When I was 5-2, I tried to win the last game on serve. Seeing my team’s reaction meant a lot. All the matches we have played have been of a high level, it is a great rivalry. I lost in the final to Daniil, but it was a very positive week.

This reflects the fact that every match has its own history and is different,” said Sinner, currently playing at the ATP 500 in Vienna.
