KRYSTEN PEEK: The back half of the college season is here, international leagues are in full swing, and NBA scouts are now very familiar with players in the upcoming draft class. There is still no consensus number one pick, and it might come down to franchise need and where teams fall in the lottery.
Here’s a look at Yahoo Sports’ latest top-five in the 2024 NBA Draft. Starting at number one is the 7 foot 1 center playing for the Perth Wildcats in Australia, Alex Sarr. He’s made his return to the court after being sidelined with a minor hip injury for the last three weeks. In his most recent game, he put up 17 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 blocks off the bench. He’s so versatile and looks much stronger with the ball than at the beginning of the season, limiting his turnovers in recent games.
Up next is Zaccharie Risacher out of France. The 6 foot 8 wing is one of the best perimeter shooters in this draft class and can shoot off the dribble or in catch and shoot situations. His physicality on defense has improved, and he could be considered for the top spot once he starts working out for teams during the pre-draft process.
At number three is the Serbian point guard Nikola Topic. The 6 foot 6 playmaker has been out since January with a left knee injury, but made a strong case as a top-five pick early on with how well he’s played in the Serbian league, averaging 16.4 points and 6.1 assists per game.
Colorado freshman Cody Williams comes in at number four. His older brother, Jalen, is in his second year with the Oklahoma City Thunder, and scouts have compared the younger Williams to Minnesota Timberwolves Jaden McDaniels. Cody can guard multiple positions on defense and is averaging 14.2 points while shooting 60% from the field this season.
And finally is Baylor shooting guard Ja’Kobe Walter. The 6 foot 6 freshman just had 23 points in a win over West Virginia, knocking down four threes and getting to the free throw line five times he’s become much more creative off the bounce and has great size at the guard position. March Madness is right around the corner, and a few players will see their draft stock rise. For more information on these players and all NBA draft news, keep it right here on Yahoo Sports.
