Karolina Muchova failed to win her first career WTA 1000 tournament in Cincinnati. The Czech player advanced to the final of the Western & Southern Open, playing long games and defeating two tTop-10 players: Maria Sakkari and Aryna Sabalenka.Muchova did not look her best physically in the final and she committed several unusual free throws.

The service didn’t work as usual, too many points lost on the first balls, as well as the net game.Coco Gauff celebrated her biggest career success in front of her home crowd. Muchova is one of the most popular tennis players on the circuit thanks to her spectacular style of play, characterized by continuous variations, net-game and an aggressiveness that is difficult to find on the WTA Tour.In an interesting interview with Vogue, Karolina talked about the differences between men’s and women’s tennis, underlining how WTA tennis is becoming more fun.Let’s try to analyze this issue.

Men’s and women’s tennis are different in many ways, and enjoy almost similar popularity and media coverage. There are still many differences in the prize money, as seen by the different compensations obtained by the protagonists in Cincinnati. But, on the court, media, insiders, fans and crowd enjoy themselves more than, for example, watching a possible final between Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz, or between Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka? Both would be interesting challenges, with many food for thought.

Saying what’s best can be difficult and subjective, but a lot depends on that precise day in which they play, on the challenge that the champions perform. The last two matches between Nole and Carlitos (Wimbledon and Cincinnati – ed.) have been spectacular, but a third match may not necessarily be so captivating.

Maybe instead it could be a different matter for a possible women’s final which, on the eve, seemed to be in a way, and in fact an exceptional comparison could come out.The challenges between Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal have not always been spectacular and fun, the challenges between Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova have not always been more static. Then it depends on the protagonists, those capable of attracting the attention of the media and crowds.

A Grand Slam final between two legends like Venus Williams and Caroline Wozniacki, perhaps in Flushing Meadows, could be decidedly more awaited between that one, for example between two other tennis players who are not Djokovic, Alcaraz, Sinner or Rune.

Muchova: “Women’s tennis is getting more fun”

In the interview for Vogue, Muchova told: “Differences between men’s and women’s prize money? It’s something I can’t influence. I understand that the organizers have signed contracts and new television rights.

For a long time men’s tennis was considered more attractive, but lately it seems to me that women’s tennis has become more fun and unpredictable. The stadiums are starting to fill up, we could see it in the Roland Garros final.

During my career I have worked with three mental coaches, I had to change something: the problem was internal. No one has ever pushed me to do it, and this has helped me a lot. Mental attitude is usually the key to success in tennis, you have to be ready to face any difficult situation.

I cut back on my training somewhat, it was too much, and my body didn’t respond the same way anymore. Since the beginning of the season, I’ve only surrounded myself with people I’m happy with and trust.”
