Letter From Business Insider Editor Nicholas Carlson on Name Change

Big news today! Insider is changing its name to Business Insider.

You’ll notice I didn’t say we’re changing our name “back” to Business Insider. That’s because although we have had this name before, this move is not about going back.

It’s about a new beginning for this company. An exciting new era.

And we are beginning this new era bigger, better, and smarter. And more experienced, more talented, more ambitious, more diverse, and more global than anything we dreamed of when we had this name before.

We are a badass, bulked-up BI. As you can tell from our bold new logo:

Business Insider

As you can see, I am fired up to be Business Insider again!

And while it was wonderful to be Insider — we introduced ourselves to new audiences, and we won a Pulitzer and two Emmys — it’s now about recommitting to what we do best: our powerful, insightful, and unique coverage of business, tech, and innovation.

In a world where trust in the media is at an all-time low, Business Insider is one of the few publications trusted across party lines.

Business Insider is a widely recognized name that gets sources on the phone — helping us do better journalism for you.

Most of all, I’m excited about the new name because it’s a name that reminds us all that Business Insider isn’t some generic news website built for everybody.

It’s built for people who read our journalism because it helps them grow professionally — and personally.

It’s built for people who want society to advance and believe business and innovative thinking can drive positive change.

It’s built for people who want to win, but don’t believe that means everyone else has to lose.

It’s built for people who are as ambitious for life — love, travel, food, and adventure! — as they are for work.

It’s built for you!

So what can you expect from us?

At Business Insider, we’re dedicated to providing you with journalism that isn’t just informative but transformative.

You’re not just looking for news; you’re seeking insights that give you an edge in a rapidly evolving world. You want in-depth coverage of business, technology, and innovation — the fields that shape our future.

And that’s exactly what we’ll deliver: stories that dig deeper into the trends and innovations driving global markets and the economy, with a sharp focus on sectors most transformed by technology.

But we know your interests don’t end there. Your life outside work is just as dynamic and full of ambition. That’s why our coverage extends to health, parenting, science, entertainment, food, culture, and more.

A lot of publications cover those topics, but we do it for people who want to squeeze the most out of life and who are forward-thinking optimists, hungry for change and innovation. Expect evidence-based, clear, and concise insights that not only inform but also empower your personal growth and broaden your perspective.

Across all areas of our coverage, we’ll shine a light on the rising stars and established changemakers making a genuine impact. We want to learn from them and know you do too.

Of course, even as we celebrate achievements, we’ll hold those in power accountable. Like you, we believe the world should be more meritocratic and fair.

Here at Business Insider, we can’t wait to share with you more stories that challenge, inspire, and drive progress — stories that resonate with your ambition and zest for life.

Thank you for being a part of our community. Together, let’s move forward, grow together, and shape a future that we all believe in.

Welcome to the new era of Business Insider. Let’s make it extraordinary.
