Liverpool legends Jamie Carragher and Robbie Fowler can’t help but poke fun at rivals Man United after Europa League collapse at Sevilla

Manchester United’s Europa League collapse has certainly sparked scenes of joy among their rivals.

The Red Devils saw their journey in the competition come to an abrupt end as they fell to a 3-0 defeat against Sevilla at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium on Thursday night.

After going 2-0 up in the first leg, United fans will have had the semi-finals in their mind, but a dramatic collapse against the Spanish side in both legs has seen those dreams come to an end.

As well as seeing their hopes of winning the Europa League come to an end, defeat also sees United’s hopes of winning a treble fall by the wayside.

Having already won the Carabao Cup in February, United were hoping to secure silverware in the Europa League and the FA Cup to cement a trio of trophies in Erik ten Hag’s first season.

But with that dream no longer a reality, Liverpool favourite Robbie Fowler couldn’t help but remind their rivals that they managed to achieve exactly that in 2001 when they won the League Cup, UEFA Cup and FA Cup under Gerard Houllier – a treble that had been referred to as the ‘Mickey Mouse Treble’ by United fans.

Posting on Twitter an image of him holding the UEFA Cup trophy along with Jamie Redknapp holding the League Cup and FA Cup trophies respectively, Fowler captioned it: “Micky [sic] mouse treble [crying laughter emoji].

Fowler wasn’t the only Liverpool legend to take to social media, though.

Jamie Carragher is regularly seen winding up United supporters during his appearances on Sky Sports’ football coverage.

Presenting alongside United legend Gary Neville, Carragher never misses the chance to gloat as the former playing rivals do battle with a microphone in their hands.

Having watched United being crushed by Sevilla in the Europa League, Carragher couldn’t help but share a selfie of himself and Neville taken during Liverpool’s 7-0 win over the Red Devils last month, with the Man United legend looking downbeat and the former Reds’ defender appearing rather smug.
