Brighton took a huge step towards European football with a stoppage-time penalty from Liverpool target Alexis Mac Allister.
Manchester United defender Luke Shaw was adjudged to have handled in the box late on in the clash after a VAR check.
With the score at 0-0, Brighton knew a goal would give them a crucial three points in their quest to finish in the top seven.
Mac Allister stepped up to the plate for the Seagulls and fired a superb effort into the roof of the net in the ninth minute of stoppage-time.
The victory has seen them jump from eighth to sixth in the table, while they have two games in hand over Liverpool in fifth.
Having had such an impressive campaign, which included winning the World Cup with Argentina, there will likely be clubs interested in signing midfield maestro Mac Allister in the summer.
One side who are keen on the midfielder is Liverpool as talkSPORT understands they are stepping up their interest in the 24-year-old.
Fans are already showing excitement over a potential move, with one supporter on Twitter saying: “Mac Allister will take Liverpool to Champions League.”
“Frustrating that Mac Allister will end up at Liverpool, he’s so good,” added another user.
A third said: “Liverpool should close Mac Allister’s deal ASAP or they might lose him to another club.”
The Brighton star’s goal could prove to be one of the most important in the club’s history.
With six games left to play, the Seagulls are on course to qualify for European football for the first time ever.
However, getting the job done won’t be so easy as they still need to face Arsenal, Newcastle and Manchester City.
For United, the result sees them remain in fourth spot in the Premier League, as they sit four points ahead of rivals Liverpool with a game in hand.
