Liverpool vs Brentford predictions

Liverpool are not giving up on the top four without a fight.

The club’s supporters must be wondering what might have been had Jurgen Klopp’s side started their winning run a little earlier.

The Reds have emerged victorious in each of their last five Premier League encounters, which represents their longest winning streak of the 2022/23 campaign.

But despite taking 15 points from the last 15 available, Liverpool are outsiders in the race for the Champions League places.

At the time of writing they are four points adrift of fourth-placed Manchester United, who also have two games in hand on their arch-rivals.

United face a tricky game against Brighton & Hove Albion on Thursday night, but they would still be favourites even if they suffered defeat at the Amex Stadium.

Still, a strong end to the season would serve Liverpool well regardless of whether they scrape into the top four or not.

Klopp will be keen to build momentum and a feelgood factor ahead of what will be a vital summer at Anfield.

In time, this season might just look like a momentary blip for Liverpool. They are certainly not at their best right now, but a five-match winning run offers reason for optimism.

Liverpool vs Brentford betting tips

Liverpool are on their best winning run of the season as Brentford prepare to visit Merseyside this weekend.

Liverpool to win and both teams to score – 7/4 (bet365)

Liverpool were victorious at Anfield once again in midweek.

The margin of victory was slender, with a Mohamed Salah penalty the only thing separating the home team and Fulham. But the 1-0 triumph maintains Liverpool’s fantastic home record this season.

Leeds United, of all teams, remain the only visitors to have won at Anfield in this Premier League campaign. Only Manchester City and Arsenal have collected more points in front of their respective supporters.

Conversely, Klopp’s team rank just ninth in the away table. Had they been a little more consistent on the road, Liverpool might well be on course for a top-four finish.

Although they only scored once on Wednesday night, Liverpool’s attack is in a good place right now.

But despite the clean sheet against Fulham, there are defensive issues that Klopp must sort out. Trent Alexander-Arnold’s new inverted role has drawbacks as well as benefits, while Virgil van Dijk and Andrew Robertson have gone backwards this term.

Brentford are a difficult team to play against and they will fancy their chances of finding the net, be it from open play or a set-piece situation.

Liverpool will probably prove too strong for the Bees overall, but clean sheets could be absent in this one.

Liverpool to score in both halves – Evens (bet365)

Liverpool will be focused on bolstering their midfield in the upcoming transfer market. Klopp will probably ask for a defender or two as well.

The German must be happier with his attacking options, even with Roberto Firmino set to seek pastures new when his contract expires at the end of next month.

Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota have recently returned to full fitness, boosting both the numbers and the quality up front.

When everyone is available, Liverpool have five top-class attackers to call upon – discounting Firmino and Fabio Carvalho, a youngster with huge potential who could force his way into the reckoning next season.

Darwin Nunez is by no means the finished product but he has still scored 15 goals this term, while his physicality and power unsettles opposition backlines.

Salah is one of the greatest forwards in Premier League history and Cody Gakpo has made a fine start to life in English football since his move from PSV in January.

By their own recent standards, Liverpool were a little subdued against Fulham. But in four of their previous five outings, they scored either side of half-time.

Brentford have little to play for and may therefore take a few more risks than usual, potentially making life easier for Liverpool’s frontline.

Mohamed Salah to score any time – 11/10 (bet365)

Salah has not been perfect from the penalty spot this season, but he has notched two spot-kicks in his last two Anfield outings.

The Egyptian was on target from 12 yards in the 4-3 victory over Tottenham Hotspur last weekend, before his effort saw off Fulham’s challenge on Wednesday.

Only Erling Haaland, Harry Kane and Ivan Toney have scored more goals this season than Salah, who is two shy of 20.

Liverpool’s talisman will be looking to reach that mark sooner rather than later, and we believe he will get closer to it on Saturday.

Salah’s recent form has gone a little under the radar, perhaps because of Haaland’s record-breaking exploits for Manchester City.

But while the Egypt international has not quite been able to keep up with the Norwegian over the course of the campaign in its entirety, their returns of late are pretty similar.

Haaland has scored eight goals in the top flight since the beginning of March, while Salah has put the ball in the back of the net 10 times in the same period.

Brentford have taken seven points from the last nine available, a run which includes victories over Chelsea and Nottingham Forest.

But they have kept just one clean sheet in their last eight games and may struggle to keep Salah quiet here.
