Manchester United legend Roy Keane reckons Jack Grealish is like Olympic diver Tom Daley after he won Man City a penalty – but still had no sympathy for Aston Villa.
England international Grealish went down after a tangle with Jacob Ramsey in the penalty area, allowing City to go 3-0 up in a game they would eventually win 3-1.
Some felt £100million man Grealish bought the penalty by going down easily as he cut across his opponent with a smart run.
Former Premier League striker Chris Sutton claimed the move was a ‘form of cheating’ but Keane, usually willing to blast those he deems to be out of line, didn’t feel the same.
And he even offered a cheeky comparison for Grealish in the form of an Olympic champion famed for his diving.
He told Sky Sports: “You have to give the penalty, Jack was being very, very smart. Very naïve the defending from Ramsay but he does kind of catch him.
“Jack kicks himself more than anything else. He’s more like Tom Daley but I think it is a penalty and it’s clever from Jack. He gets his body across, he knows exactly what he is doing – gives the referee almost no option but to give the penalty.”
After the game the analysis continued with former City and Villa defender Richards adding: “He gets clipped, doesn’t he, but let’s be honest, I’m going to text him later on. He has made a meal out of that.”
Keane, though, in the end didn’t have much sympathy for Unai Emery’s side.
He continued: “He was doing this for years at Aston Villa. He used to frustrate lots of teams.
“But when you get across people in the box you are almost asking to be punished. Ramsey is trying to get himself out of it, but Jack’s clever enough to get close enough.
“There’s almost a tangle of legs, the ref doesn’t have a choice, It’s smart by Jack.”
