Matteo Berrettini had a very positive path at Wimbledon 2023, in relation to the last troubled months that the Italian has experienced. In fact, we must remember that Matteo returned with a KO in Stuttgart after months of absence and his condition didn’t seem brilliant at all.All different in this Wimbledon edition, where only one of the best versions of Carlos Alcaraz managed to stop the former number 6 in the world.

Joy and pain for the Italian tennis player, who can restart with greater awareness and the possibility of improving immediately in the next upcoming tournaments.

Matteo Berrettini’s honest truth: “I felt alive again”

Here are Berrettini’s words at the press conference: “It’s a very hard defeat.

Of course, I played against the number one in the world and I expected such a high level, he found my weak points and hit me.This is tennis and I have the impression that he could have done even better. In the end you don’t always get the result you want, but I’m proud of myself.

Now I have to look ahead and think about my next goals.Wimbledon? I don’t like to lose and so it’s hard to put things in perspective. Right now it’s hard to say it was a good tournament, even though I know it was. Maybe in a few hours or even tomorrow I’ll be able to appreciate what I’ve done.I have to remember that two days before Wimbledon I was undecided whether to play or not, instead I reached the round of 16 and all this should make me proud.

At the same time I am very competitive and always want to win. I felt alive again, I felt this is what I want to do, I didn’t give my best performance but this is sport.”Then he commented: “I think I could have done with the return, especially in the sets I lost I wasn’t as aggressive as I had planned and my forehand didn’t work as I wanted.

I made a mistake but I tried.Lack of matches? It’s a mix of more things but I think this also had an impact. But he is number one in the world and I think he played very well. He was solid, good at returning and had impressive defence. I didn’t lose just for this but for various reasons.”
