Novak Djokovic revealed to Serbian media that he is preparing for the final part of the season, in which his top priorities will be leading Serbia to the Davis Cup title and finishing ahead of Carlos Alcaraz in the rankings.
Just a few days after winning the US Open, Djokovic went to Valencia to help Serbia make it past the Davis Cup Finals group stage. After the Davis Cup, Djokovic took a break and announced he would not play again until the Paris Masters, which starts on October 30th.
In the remainder of the year, Djokovic will compete at the Paris Masters, ATP Finals, and Davis Cup Final 8. Djokovic, who overtook Alcaraz at No 1 after the US Open, wants to lead Serbia to their second Davis Cup title and also secure the Year-End No 1 ranking in the upcoming period.
Djokovic addresses his plans, goals for the remainder of the year
“Preparations are underway for the final part of the season, I have three tournaments left to play. I’m looking forward to the challenges, I’m still in the race to finish No 1, with Alcaraz in that fight, there are still a few weeks, just enough to bring my game to the targeted level.
Probably, that five-week break will affect the beginning a little, I hope that I will be able to overcome it as soon as possible and reach the targeted level and quality of competitive tennis very soon. Expectations are high, I had a lot of success in Bercy and I expect nothing less this year.
My biggest wish is to win the Davis Cup, I hope we will be healthy and fit and I hope I can finish the year as number one and win at least one more title,” Djokovic told Sportal. Last year, Djokovic ended as runner-up in Paris and won the ATP Finals title.
The 2023 season has been a great one for Djokovic and he will absolutely be the top favorite to win the last few tournaments of the year. It remains to be seen if Djokovic can lead Serbia to their second-ever Davis Cup title and also finish the season at the world No 1 spot ahead of Alcaraz.
